Can anyone recommend a rice cooker? It needs to be fairly big and have a timer function.

Thanks. :)

If you are willing to spend, then get a zojirushi. Or any Japanese fuzzy logic ones. It's what we use in the Far East. All the stove top method and UK rice cookers produce rice that's fairly disgusting.

Not sure what people use to cook their basmati rice though. (As I'm not a fan of it).

Thanks - the price is a bit Shock but it's my Christmas present - I'll see if DH is feeling generous. Grin

We have just a "normal" automatic one and it works perfectly well, and stove top method works perfectly well too! Our rice cooker has a non-stick pot - I think that makes it better. It does take ages to cook though so I only use it if I don't want to hang around.

I don't cook basmati rice either... Who needs rice that will fall apart and go everywhere when you have kids that will do that anyway?

I'm with onelittlebabyterror here. I have held off buying a rice cooker for years, because I can not find a Japanese fuzzy logic cooker in the UK. They are beyond brilliant. Thanks for the link, I am going to have to investigate further.

Thanks all. I'm not a rice connoiseur - I think I do normally cook basmati (well, standard brown rice - not sure if it's basmati or not - I'm afraid I don't know the difference!). Confused

The stove top method doesn't work for me as (a) I always cook it too long and it sticks to the bottom of the non-stick pan and (b) I never remember to put it on in time for dinner, often because we're out until just beforehand. I want to be able to bung it in earlier in the day, set the timer & forget about it.

uptoapoint supposedly the longer cooking time is what makes the rice tastes so good! The fancy rice cookers have timers. All I do is put water and rice in it before work and set it to finish at 7pm Wink

Oh and I don't cook basmati either. Thai jasmine all the way.

If you have a microwave, try one of these cheap and cheerful pots here. I wouldn't be without it. Perfect basmati in 10-15 minutes.
