I've really gottodo some work - this website is addictive!!!
Anyway, right now Im trying to make my 8mth old eat something!!! She loves fruit so I have decided to mix them with veg/meat. Any ideas?
Has anyone ever cooked chicken with mango? I cant get her o eat chicken, hv said its a good mat to start her on.
Im a hopeless cook, do i boil them separately and puree them together whilst hot, how do you cool then quickly and safely to freeze? Im crap!

im worried about giving her food poisoning as when i read baby recipes, it will say be careful not to warm th chicken... ahhhh i dont know - help?

gotta be quick as ds just woken up - I am paranoid and rubbish cook too but here is what I do and so far so good:

cook chicken breast in foil and bit of olive oil in oven for 20 mins, boil veg I want to mix it with at same time (you can poach mango - wouldn't do it for long though - say 5 mins) then bung both in blender and mush up. Leave to cool - put one portion in fridge for next meal and then put rest in freezer.

I think they are only saying don't warm chicken if it is already cooked and come from the fridge to then be mixed with warm vegies. Its ok if it is already hot.

does that make sense?

i meant paranoid about food poisoning - not paranoid in general!

Beef and banana stew is good (well curry is so I guess stew would be too!)

MammyShirl · 27/11/2003 14:51

so you poach mango, boil veg, chicken in oven then belnd altogther? sounds easy!

ill have to try that one! thank you.

your second message made me smile - being a mammy makes you go bonkers sometimes its funny.

take care

Pork and apricot is rather good. cooked with a splash of orange juice, and then whizzed up in the food processor.

Chicken and apple is good too. I also used to puree 'sunday dinner' which my kids loved. If you do this make sure you don't add salt or use stock cubes for the gravy.

For baby meals I always just bung all the veg in a steamer/microwave (adding the meat/fish towards the end cut up really small), cook, drain, puree and then add back in a bit of the cooking juice along with a little oil.

Then you just leave it to cool with a lid on, and then freeze (normal cooling time is fine, you don't need to do it particularly quickly. It's much more important that you heat it up thoroughly after it's been defrosted)

I cook the meat/fish with the veg in the microwave or steam it, mash it, put it into portion sizes and freeze it. When I defrost the meals I add a cheese triangle which makes a cheese sauce with the moisture from the veg - easy!!

MammyShirl · 27/11/2003 15:41

SenoraPostrophe - when you say you cook the veg in the steamer and add chopped up meat at the end... to the steamer? already cooked? sorry for being crap?

or do you mean you cook the veg then out in blender with cooked meat?
