I've used all the usual brands but I want to try a twinings one BUT there's too many to choose from. I don't like fruity tea so that's out of the question. I've seen ones that say it tastes 'smokey'.. how can a tea taste smokey ? Hmm

Yorkshire tea!

I only drink decaf and it's the best.

Should be the tea of choice in all households!

FoofFighter · 11/04/2012 15:32

Twinings English Breakfast tea is a good place to start.

PimpMyTunnel · 11/04/2012 15:33

I've got that one FooFighter. I want something with an edge

Assam is a good strong tea. Loves me a cup of Assam, I do.

HuevosRancheros · 11/04/2012 16:06

Lapsang Souchong is definitely smoky, only word to describe it. Yum, but not an everyday tea, for me. Not as refreshing as I want it

(I am very uncouth, I like Sains Red Label tea Blush

PimpMyTunnel · 11/04/2012 16:24

So a smoky tea ... does it taste ... burnt? Confused!

Punjana tea is the loveliest black tea imo. so smooth.

Taffeta · 11/04/2012 17:45

Assam is my fave but I also like Yorkshire Gold.

I buy both in bulk when they are on offer otherwise they are a silly price

Bunbaker · 11/04/2012 17:47

PG Tips for every day. Nothing else touches them. I am also partial to a drop of Earl Grey now and again.

GwendolineMaryMagdaleneLacey · 11/04/2012 17:48

Yorkshire. There is no other. :)

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/04/2012 17:48

We use sainsburys basic tea bags.

DH still thinks we have PG tips. 16 months later.

Housemum · 11/04/2012 19:49

fluffy I was sorely tempted to try them yesterday - i buy Red Label from Sainsbury's - maybe now I will be brave enough, they were so cheap I wasn't sure! (We do eat quite a bit of Basics stuff as most of it is as good but not as pretty looking)

Assam or English Breakfast are nice Twinings ones

Typhoo tastes pretty rank IMO, PG Tips or Yorkshire are what I'd have if not Sainsbury's Red.

PimpMyTunnel · 11/04/2012 21:35

Huevos Shock how can you reccomend such a disgusting tea!!! I went to sainsburys and bought the twinings 'Lapsang Souchong' and was nearly sick when I took a sip. Even my partner tried it and said its nasty. It smells and tastes like fag ash!!!! YUCCCCCCK! The worst tea ive ever had. I did go and buy 'Assam' too and that was lovely.

Ringtons. My brother is a connoisseur of the tea and he regularly sends me a box of ringtons. He's not wrong!

DontCallMeMummyPig · 12/04/2012 22:02

Another vote for Assam. But also enjoying Ceylon at the mo... Fresher tasting.

HuevosRancheros · 13/04/2012 07:57

Sorry Pimp Grin As I said, I personally wouldn't call it an everyday tea, but I do like it occasionally. But not too strong! Anyway, at least you now know what a smokey tea tastes like! Wink

Babylon1 · 13/04/2012 07:59

I'm with Bunbaker!! PG Tips all the way - nothing comes close and it was the only tea I could drink in early pregnancy which didn't make me chuck my ring up!! Xx

DaddyPigsSecretAdmirer · 13/04/2012 13:47

Ooops I'm another Sains Red Label lover-they are yum! Whilst at uni my DP worked at Sains and said people used to genuinely go mad for them-a little old lady who lived ages away from a Sains used to pop in when visiting her daughter and stock up, buying hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of bags to see her through to her next holiday so there must be something good about them!

DaddyPigsSecretAdmirer · 13/04/2012 13:48

Also I'm not a fan of fruit teas either. Smells so good, tastes of precisely nothing. I do have a soft spot for jasmine tea however, which tastes like face paints. In a good way Confused

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 13/04/2012 13:53

Yorkshire, Morrison's English Breakfast, or Sainsbury's Earl Grey.
All the basics teas are wrong, and those who say otherwise need their tea-drink permits removed.

PimpMyTunnel · 13/04/2012 14:07

I know my dad used to buy asda smartprice tea bags for 20p a box. Although they were cheap they didn't taste as good as a more expensive one. Anyway, I may sound stupid but what does the red label mean on the sainsburys ones. Is it organic or something ?

I find Assam tastes like Elephant dung or could it be that I tried it while working at a zoo?! but for smokey flavour, then yes Lapsang whatnot.

I love Yorkshire tea for hard water or Tetley as I like it really strong.

Fruit tea always really disappointing, like a beautifully wrapped gift that turns out to be shit, they smell lovely and seem really wholesome and natural, but taste like vinegar.

DontForgetTheLightAlesLawrence · 13/04/2012 14:14

Clipper teabags are delicious. Good, strong brew.

When skint, I go for Aldi gold and they're surprisingly good, too.

Geranium3 · 13/04/2012 21:19

twinings are the best IMO, at the moment they are doing a variety box of 25teabags for less than£2

1gglePiggle · 13/04/2012 21:23

I love a good cup of builders tea made with pg tips or co-op 99. Also not a fan of typhoo.
