DD is 1 soon, thinking about to do small party with her friends (i know its early) and family. I have no clue what to do with food? I suppose, fruit grapes, ricecake, biscuits, and what else??? Im ok with adults, but what do you give children if the oldest is about 2.5 and 1.8 and 1.5 years.Im thinking about make some fairy cakes, too but what else as sweets and party food for them ???

If you give grapes, cut them in half, small children have choked on them whole.

You could give cheese sandwiches, ham sandwiches, little bits of cold pizza, sausage rolls, cheese straws, bowl of pombears (crisp things that melt in the mouth)

Don't go overboard with the food for the kids because at the ages they are they will probably eat very little

I'd cut the grapes into quarters, at a party kids walk around eating and you can still choke on half a grape

Do nibbles for the little ones - sticks of peppers, cucumber, celery, carrot and baby tomatoes. Have soft bread cakes or fingers of pitta bread. Bits of ham, little prawns, cocktail sausages, etc. Then have unsalted crisps/snacks- Waitrose have a Peter Rabbit range and they do a yummy vegetable crisp pack.

Sweet stuff - white chocolate buttons, raisins (plain or coated with yogurt maybe), and fruit.

Home made cakes? I am sure they will be fine for the older ones. I was happy for Dd to have the odd treat at parties at those ages. Just retrict any icing colours - don't want them getting hyper!

Hi divamummy - dd was 1 a couple of weeks ago and we had adults plus 6 children ranging from 8 months to 3 yrs. We did a traditional afternoon tea for everyone so there were finger sandwiches (smoked salmon, cucumber and cream cheese, ham and egg mayo) followed by scones with cream and jam and cakes - we got a whole selection. This went down well with all from the youngest (8 months) to the oldest (62 years).
