Best ever chocolate-based pudding for Easter Sunday lunch

IAmRubyLennox · 03/04/2012 16:40

I've given up chocolate for Lent, and by some uncharacteristic miracle of will-power, have managed to keep it up Shock.

I do, however, intend that Easter Sunday lunch will end with a stupendous marvellous chocolate-orientated pudding. What's the best one I could make (3 adults, 3 DCs)??

I have in mind something that can be sliced, rather than individual things in glasses or ramekins, but I am prepared to be persuaded otherwise.

Stipulations, however:

None of the DC will eat anything with fruit involved
DH would prefer not to have things with alcohol in (or at least, with a discernible alcoholic kick)
DD doesn't like white chocolate but totally happy with brown variety.

I was toying with Nigella's Chocolate Cloud Cake, but feel like I've done it to death over the years.

nigella's molten chocolate babycakes are great, if you can set aside your ramekin prejudice. lovely with a decent vanilla icecream.

Delia's chocolate bread and butter pudding
Sub rum for orange juice.

Ooh, I was just considering Nigella's Easter Egg Nest Cake, page 169 of Feast - came on here for main course inspiration! Anyway, has anyone tried it?

Err...easter eggs?

LoonyRationalist · 04/04/2012 20:03

I came to suggest Delia's chocolate bread & butter pudding but I see NettoSuperstar beat me to it.

Seriously it is divine & chocolate heaven. Well done on the chocolate abstinence btw.

Warm Chocolate Brownies , served with Vanilla Icecream and Chocolate Sauce .

so the Delia pudding really is the business, is it? Ooohh, decisions decisions.

This milk choc tart is gorgeous and fruit and alcohol free, and reasonably easy to make. It is squidgy and fluffy when warm and dense and comforting when cold. Fab with some double cream or icecream. Texture is a bit like the middle of a Lindor egg....

I'm making a choc-orange cheesecake. V easy and yum!

WantToMoveNorth · 05/04/2012 08:34

This recipe is very similar to pinkcheesy's. It's one of the best deserts I've ever had, I was so pleased with it! Be warned though, it's very rich!

salted caramel and chocolate tart

We will be having nigella's easter egg cake, as we do every year. Delicious. I have also been choc free for lent and am now dreaming of the cake...

I saw a recipe on the QVC site- it's called The Challenge (the Challenge is you can't eat more than one slice)

chocolate biscuit base (made with crushed digestives and melted butter/margarine)
condensed milk that has been boiled in the tin for 2 hours (not the ready caramelised one, it's too soft)
Malteasers pressed into the caramel
melted Mars Bar over the top

Leave to chill until really solid

I've not tried it- my DCs and DH wouldn't eat it- I'll try it when I have appreciative visitors

I made the tart that IWantToMoveNorth linked to. Blimey it is very good. However I am now having to lie on the sofa like a beached whale!
