No desire for food

I am 30 weeks pregnant and had hyperemesis until week 15. This left me with aversions to alot of foods I would normally eat although the aversions have largely gone. I just don't know what I want to eat and am having huge dilemmas over what to cook for dinner especially. Both me and OH are quite different in our tastes and can be quite fussy, usually resulting in us having different dinners. He is not at all helpful in deciding what to have as he prefers to leave that to me. It's our anniversary at the weekend and we have been looking at some nice restaurants but the menus leave me panicking over what I would pick as nothing actually sounds nice. I am eating much the same things over and over and hate being in such a rut. Any advice?

Try posting in pregnancy? After youve had your baby im sure you'll start fancying food again. Until then just eat what you fancy! Let your OH decide for himself!

congratulations. i had hyperemesis with both pregnancies (throwing up each day until he bitter end) though it didn't require treatment luckily.

i overate in first pregnancy sweeter things like pizza qnd icecream and noodles (lived in asia) and put on four stone.

i lost that and went on to lose two stone ths pregnancy (baby was fine btw) and gave birth and left hosp a size 8 as all i could eat was fruit and veg

i fpund eating lightly, salady things, lots of fruit helped. in this state i would have found middle eastern restaurants or vietnamese places good for fresher tasting veg based stuff

oh, and still was off food for a while after giving birth. but i don't have aversions any more

I'm the same, normally I love food, but at the moment I'm 24 weeks and can't really enjoy anything. Plain food seems to go down better so lot of pasta or rice with various veg, bread and cheese and fruit. Also I think it's more the cooking that makes me a bit ill rather than the eating. No cook food or DH making simple things seem to go down better than things I've cooked myself.

Really feel for you as this was exactly how I was with DC1. Just wanted to post to say that I got my appetite back the day after I gave birth and was fine in pg2.

Hope you have a nice meal on Saturday. Is there any chance you can wait until the day to book, just to see what you fancy?

I am not feeling ill at all or queasy it's just a plain lack of appetite and lack of enjoyment in anything I eat. It's almost robotic to have a meal as I just don't fancy anything or enjoy it when I have it. It is very frustrating. I am very small in frame and was only just a normal weight at conception. I have gained very little weight during my pg although baby growing fine but I know I need to continue eating regularly to maintain this. How dull life is when food becomes a chore!

I sympathise with you. I get stages like this, where nothing looks or sounds like it will taste good. My solution is put up with having my "food fail" diet: porridge with syrup for breakfast, a ham sandwich, salt and vinegar crisps and an apple for lunch, and rice with peas, sweetcorn and soy sauce for dinner.

After a week or so one this, I try to vary the topping on the porridge, vary the sandwich filling, vary the veg with the rice etc. Then start to add to add more variations and then hopefully food will be good again. It can take a month or so, though.
