Goodness, that is one thing that has never ever gone mouldy for me. And I've used pesto before that's been open 2 months Blush

carrotsandcelery · 19/03/2012 21:59

Do you keep it in the fridge?

wifeofdoom · 19/03/2012 22:01

You can freeze it in teaspoons on a baking tray on greaseproof paper and then put all the pesto 'coins' in a freezer pot....

AgentProvocateur · 19/03/2012 22:02

Just pour a bit of olive oil over it before you put the jar in the fridge, then stir before use.

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 19/03/2012 22:03

Waitrose also do it in little portion packs for the freezer...?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 19/03/2012 22:03

Waitrose sell pesto icecubes in freezer section.

Beamur · 19/03/2012 22:06

So, could you buy a jar then and freeze it into an ice cube tray? Probably cheaper than buying them like that already.

myhandslooksoold · 19/03/2012 22:11

I would freeze it in small portions. You can also freeze hummous I found out last week.

Calamityboo · 19/03/2012 22:13

I put it in ice cube trays in the freezer then just pop a block of it when I need it.

Beamur · 19/03/2012 22:15

You can freeze humous? That might help save me from chucking half a pot away every week.

SmileItsSunny · 19/03/2012 22:20

Wow, this is going to change my household habits! as long as I don't mix up the frozen cubes of puree....

SewCrafty · 19/03/2012 22:23

Wow, so many replies. I do keep it in the fridge, with extra olive oil on top, then the bits around the top of the jar go mouldy. I should just use more quickly or chuck it I know, but I just hate waste. Yes I could freeze it, used to do that with baby food. Will try that.

Waitrose does a frozen pesto with small portions.

mousymouseafraidofdogs · 19/03/2012 22:28

make yourself and freeze in small portions

Will green chilli paste freeze?
I love Thai green curry, but I'm no chilli head so I don't stir anything like the prescribed amount into the coconut milk.

BeckyBrandonNeeBloomwood · 19/03/2012 22:36

Sainsburys also do the frozen cube portions. But putting leftover into your own tray and freezing- much better idea!

myhandslooksoold · 20/03/2012 23:12

I would definitely freeze curry paste! I also freeze fresh ginger, chillis, passata, left over tinned tomatoes, most sorts of buns/bread, egg whites, sliced lemons for g&t, fresh rhubarb, coriander.
I wouldn't freeze milky/dairy stuff except for milk itself- so I have never tried freezing chive dip (although I do freeze frube type yoghurts for school lunches so they defrost slowly over the morning and have some chance of still being chilled at lunchtime) so maybe I'll experiment with other stuff.
I would never freeze cooked rice as nervous about risk of food poisoning as I learnt that on a food safety course many years ago and of I'd never refreeze previously frozen food. Hope this helps.

Beanbagz · 22/03/2012 17:19

Freezing humous? A tub will generally get eaten in 2 days in our house!

Will definately try freezing pesto though as i've had it go mouldy in the fridge too.

Shutupanddrive · 22/03/2012 19:25

Was going to say freeze it but can see I've been beaten to it. Said it anyway!
