I may have totally misunderstood but do you guys know a way of cooking an egg that isn't the traditional poached or boiled that bread soilders can still be dipped into? It seems to be something to do with a ramakin and and an oven?

Please advise! I have even googled it I don't seem to understand what it is!!

Surely its just a soft boiled egg that you can 'dip' soldiers in?

Dippy egg to me is a soft boiled egg held in an egg cup that fingers of bread or toast can be dipped in to.

Northey · 19/03/2012 11:26

Coddled egg, do you mean?

SardineQueen · 19/03/2012 11:32

Dippy egg to me is soft boiled.

I tried to do an egg in a ramekin in the oven once (I am sure I had a good reason at the time) but I was guessing and the result was highly unsatisfactory to put it mildly Grin

Just a soft boiled egg as far as I'm concerned. Put in an egg cup, take off the top gently (otherwise the yolk will run down the egg and be lost forever), and dip in bread or toast soldiers.

Add a little salt and pepper of course.

Really just repeating what nappy and Sparky have said.

Northey's got it. Coddled eggs, very similar to poached but cooked in a ramekin... like this

Northey · 19/03/2012 13:30

Not that I know how to make them or anything. Just the name.

from that link "In an oven proof dish put the ramekin and then pour enough boiling water to come halfway up the ramekin".

AHA!
