Can anyone recommend nice gluten free stuff?

I normally buy the Dietary Specials white ciabatta rolls and have had the Waitrose Chocolate Muffins, but apart from that a lot of the things I've tried are pretty yuk.

Can anyone recommend any nice bread, pasta and goodies, or any good recipes? Thanks.

For bacon roll purposes, I like the DS english muffins (20s microwave, then lightly toast)
For sandwiches to take somewhere, gf pittas (need toasting before making up)
Toast - Warburtons gf spiced fruit, or Genius brown

Goodies - cherry bakewells (I think all of the gf ones are made by the same people), the triple choc biscuits, anything from Honeybuns, Lazyday choc tiffin....

You'll find lots of helpful info and recipes here: members2.boardhost.com/glutenfree/

Archived recipes are here: coeliac.proboards.com/index.cgi

Another vote for the Lazyday chocolate tiffin - it really is gorgeous and they do chocolate gingers and millionaires shortbread as well.

I've never seen that Lazyday chocolate tiffin - can you get it in supermarkets?

Thanks!

Yes - I get it in Waitrose normally. It is far too good for my waistline.

Well they didn't have any in my Waitrose Sad

But I did get some of their Caramel Crispy Bites or whatever they are called - they are GF, but not dairy free so they are in the normal cake section.

Food of the Gods I tell you.

Warburtons seeded bread.
Mrs Crimbles cakes
for pasta our health food shop do one from quinoa and buckwheat ( I think that was it) which my dad reckons is better than the standard GF - think they sometimes have it in waitrose too

Quinoa and buckwheat pasta sounds way better than the rice and corn one

Genius bread is great.
Doves Farm pasta is good.
Tescos and Sainsburys do ready-made victoria sponge and chocolate sponge cakes which are good.
Prewetts biscuits are all good (especially the chocolate ones Grin)

(will try and think of some more stuff)

My DS wont eat the GF bread but will eat anything from here : wheatfreebakerydirect.com/

The Lazy day ginger biscuits are fab - even my non coeliac DH eats them ....

Prewetts biscuits are good too and sometimes available from www.approvedfoods.co.uk

Approved foods also has some GF breakfast cereals at the mo.

I make GF gingerbread and GF choc crispy buns.

For people who like oatcakes and want a GF alternative, the Nairns GF Cheese Oatcakes are yummy. Not quite as crispy as the ones containing gluten but that's what I like better about them. Nice cheesy flavour too.

Genius bread and Doves Farm GF pasta are good cupboard standby items.

However, I found that shop bought GF was expensive and not really that nice so I cook all my own GF bread, pudding, cakes, biscuits now and I really do enjoy them much more. My whole family now eat my pudding, cakes, biscuits all the time and guests never notice.

tkband3 · 19/03/2012 14:35

I agree MoreBeta - I don't bake bread, but I bake loads of cakes etc, all from standard recipes (Jamie Oliver, Nigella etc), using Doves Farm gluten free flour and get rave reviews all the time. The Tesco and Sainsburys cakes are for emergency (ie last minute requests from school) purposes usually Grin.
