Help - meat confusion. I'm a sleep deprived idiot.

Is there any way you could confuse ham shanks with lamb shanks? I bought some lamb shanks yesterday (I thought) but now I'm worried I bought ham by accident. I hadn't slept for 3 days (DD has an ear infection) when I went to the butchers.

Now when I replay that scene in my head all I am hearing is "hello mr butcher can I have two HAM SHANKS please?"

I have already browned them and put them in the slow cooker. How can I tell? I have no sense of smell btw.

Clues please.

They look exactly the same as the last lamb I bought. I think. Help!

Raw ham is usually a lighter colour than lamb and cooks to a light pink. Lamb cooks to a pinkish brown...

You could cut a sliver off and taste it.

It was lamb :D

I tried tasting it. It looked pink, but also pinky brown. I couldn't tell! I thought sod it, it's mystery meat, we will eat it whatever the fuck it turns out to be. DH walked in, sniffed the air & said 'Oo, lamb, lovely'. Problem solved. Sometimes all you need is a nose.

Apols if I sound like a muppet, I'm new to this cooking lark.
