I know that nothing beats the real thing, but is there any better brand than the supermarket make? I'd be prepared to pay more for something that tastes and smells good. Thanks

I buy the frozen herbs for the softer ones. I have frozen basil, flat leaf parsley, mint and coriander. You just add them from frozen when you would add the fresh equivalent.
I also have frozen chopped garlic, ginger and chilli because it saves me so much time.

I've started buying herbs in oil like this. They have a better flavour then dried.

I use bog standard Sainsbury's dried herbs and they're pretty good. However we use a lot and so have really quite quick turnover and thats a crucial point I'd say. I end up buying new mixed herbs about every three months, and I can tell the difference immediately when we open a new tub, they loose their power really quickly.

IMO and E you get what you pay for esp with non - organic dried herbs they often consist of sweepings and have sat around in the warehouses before being packed so there's little flavour left; it's well worth buying organic like Crazy Jacks as mrs magnolia says or from mediterranean grocers that have a high turnover.
