Oven, microwave, kettle... What can I cook?

We've just moved and our things don't arrive until Tuesday/Wednesday next week and I'm rapidly losing ideas for dinner.

So far we have had salad and pizza, salad with beans and baked potato, and for dinner tonight salad, sausages and roasties.

I'm stuck. Any ideas on what else I can cook without any pots and pans? It's myself, dd (14m and not fussy) and DH. I've never really used a microwave for anything other than heating milk so no idea what they can do.

Thanks

I think this is why god created chippies, pub lunches and takeaways... I'd be breaking the habit of a lifetime, popping over to M&S and blowing £££s on a few day's worth of 'naice' microwave ready-meals.

Nooooo I can't, I'm in the serious sticks in shanghai. Also broke after the move so can't afford the cost of ready meals from m&s here. DH is on crutches too so no going out for him.

would kill for chippy

Ramen noodles and steamed veg (you can get some small packets of microwaveable fresh veg in M&S) and then cut up pre cooked chicken breast to stir in for protein. Soy sauce optional. It's not exciting but when I was without a kitchen for six weeks it made a change from take away and pizza.

Agh, sorry, should have said in first post that I - boringly - need to cook from scratch.

OK then.... One-Pot Casseroles. Chicken/beef/beans/fish, spuds/sweet potato, veggies all cut into similar sized pieces with stock/water/tomatoes/wine for the sauce. You can't brown the meat but it shoudl be OK. Bake in oven until everything is cooked. Baked risotto is a similar idea ... rice, veggies, meat/fish and enough stock to cover made with boiling water out of your kettle. Cover with foil and bake until rice absorbs all the liquid and everything's tender.

Fish takes no time in a microwave... cook in greaseproof paper parcels with some herbs and butter. Rice cooks in a microwave.... double the volume of boiling water to rice in a BIG bowl (otherwise it boils over) covered with pierced film. Cook on medium for 10 mins or until all water is absorbed. Scrambled eggs are good in the microwave.... whisk eggs, butter, a little milk and seasoning and cook in 30 second bursts, whisking in between every time, until the right consistency.

Just saw you have no pots and pans. Sounds like a great opportunity to meet your neighbours and either borrow a few or invite yourself round for supper.

Cous cous with roasted veg.

When travelling in China I used to buy instant noodles and pour boiling water on them to cook in a mug. Noodles are very nice with scrambled egg and soy sauce.

For your LO, a little bit of fish steamed in the microwave, a few bits of potato either baked or microwaved and mashed and some veg done in the microwave. She won't care if it's not all on the plate at the same time.

Beefburgers in a bun with wedges and salad.

What do you have to cook in the oven and microwave. Do you have dishes with lids?

ComradeJing · 09/03/2012 00:29

Thanks for the suggestions.

All I have are some plastic tupperware, plates, bowls, knives, forks, spoons, and two mugs. That's it.

In the oven I have two of those black oven trey things and wire racks.
