DD always had weetabix or porridge for breakfast and now won't eat anything with a spoon for breakfast (and sometimes even lunch!). She likes dry cheerios. Even toast doesn't always go down v well. Any ideas (especially as she seems to be having problems having poos at the minute!)

English muffins. Cheese scones. Apple slices spread with peanut butter. Banana smoothie with whatever you want her to eat most hidden in it. Beans on toast. Egg on toast. Bagels. Yogurt.

She can eat anything she enjoys for breakfast as long as it's something that will give her energy and nutrients. It could be leftover pizza if it makes her happy, there's no law that says she has to eat breakfast foods, IYSWIM.

I don't think dry foods are a problem if she will eat other things as well. Just check the salt content as crackers can be pretty salty.

I have given ds (2) a runny egg. Not sure if you are meant to or not. What about scrambled egg? Omelette? A plateful of bits and pieces sometimes works well with my ds. Things like dried apricots, banana slices, satsuma segments, oatcakes, raisins. I think the idea of having a choice is very attractive to them.

Sounds like it is one of those delightful stages where they assert their independence for a bit by being complete s*ds. Don't let food become a huge battle as it can deteriorate so quickly if you do. Her having something to eat that she likes, and you both keeping happy and having a good relationship together is more important than her eating the perfect breakfast.

Where I come from we have sandwiches for breakfast. And why not, eh?

airbabe · 30/01/2006 22:31

all my 2 yr old dd will eat for breakfast is sugar puffs with no milk if im lucky current fad is waffles with nothing on them

knat · 31/01/2006 19:09

Franny -s he will eat scrambled egg (sometimes it takes a few goes becaue it is on a spoon and not finger food) and at the minute loves omelette cut into strips although i'm a little weary of giving her too much egg in case it bungs her up.

MOT - she doesn't eat sandwiches!!!!!

dd demands branflakes? all day, branflakes branflakes, branflakes. anyone know if they are ok for 2yr olds? i think they just get sick of porridge eventually. she does eat porridge occasionaly if i have some too and sit with her.

knat, my dd, also 2.3 months is not good at breakfast either... at best she may eat some dry shreddies and half a piece of toast, or croissant. I sometimes give her a beaker of milk after breakfast, sometimes watered down as she does drink a lot of milk anyway. She also has problems with poos as she refuses to eat fruit. Luckily she loves veg and eats loads, well, I make sure she does!

knat · 31/01/2006 19:30

yes bagpuss my dd likes milk i stopped her wake up bottle about a week or so ago and she just has one at bedtime now -she wont drink milk from a cup but drinks water from a cup. I was worried she was not drinking enough which is why i continued with the wake up bottle so long and she has had trouble pooing since this time. Today i waited until around 1015 and asked her if she wanted a bottle and she said yes and drank 8oz! i think i'm just going to keep it as a now and again thing if she's not drinking too much and see if she wants it rather than every day. Despite dropping this milk her appetite doesn't seem to have incrased dramatically

knat, my dd also has a wake up bottle, but usually about an hour before breakfast, so always think she should be hungry for breakfast and I guess she may not alway be after all that milk.
I suppose you could try giving her breakfast later, or try healthy snacks later. If dd asks for milk mid morning I always give her water with a tiny bit of milk in it to look like milk and she normally drinks it thinking it's milk! then it doesn't fill her up too much and leaves room for lunch.
She is such a milk monster she would live on the stuff if she could!

waterfalls · 31/01/2006 19:35

My dts (2.2 yrs) love toasted hot cross buns.

waterfalls · 31/01/2006 19:37

And accasionally they have sausage rolls for breakfast.

Mercy · 31/01/2006 19:42

Baked beans, fruit loaf? Sliced banana in milk often goes down well in our house - can use spoon or fingers. Also a yoghurt and a box of raisins (separately!).

It is a phase they all go through, albeit a very long drawn out one!

airbabe · 31/01/2006 19:51

carrot soup for all 3 meals today!! with hot cross buns for snacks! least she stopped asking for mince pies (nappies not pleasant!!) have decided as long as she is eating i dont care what it is it will be back to proper meals tomorrow hopefully!

PeachyClair · 31/01/2006 20:47

My DS3 (2.5) will only eat a humzinger and a bowl of cheerios.

PeachyClair · 31/01/2006 20:48

To be precise, 1 tbsp cheerios, dry in a green and yellow bowl. They all do it, most grow out of it, but it's anoying.
