Is it possible not to wean until 26 weeks?

I started giving dd1 solids at 17 weeks in desperate attempt to get her to sleep - it didn't work! dd2 is much bigger and feeds twice in the night. Official advice is to wait until 6 months before weaning and i thought i would try to do that this time, trouble is no one else I know has managed it! Anyone out there succeeded or doesn't anyone really bother?

my twins were at least 6.5 months - I remembered the mess DS1 made on his own and couldn't face it with the twins so kept saying - I'll start tomorrow

Yes. You have to be determined though. I found out that babies go through waking for extra feeds at 20 weeks and settling again. That coincides with many babies starting solids and the sleeping again being attributed to that. You have to be prepared to feed on demand to get to 26 weeks.

Yep - no problem with dd (now 7.5 mths). She skipped purees and went straight on to mashed stuff and finger food and is loving every soggy bite

WEaned ds at 5.5 mths (he's 3.4 now) but only under (what i thought was) pressure from others because he was off the centile charts weight and height-wise. But it was much more of a battle with ds, cos looking back I don't think he was ready even then.

Solids are unnecessary before 26 wks and even then it's just tasters for a time after that - not full blown 3 course dinners

Stick it out and your baby will be able to sit in a highchair rather than trash the cute fabric of a bouncy chair and feed herself faster too! Makes life soooo much easier - and she'll be healthier too

6 months here too.

I started solids at 4 months (as was advice at the time) for dd1, 10 months for ds2, 9 months for ds3 and 8 months for ds4.

dd was weaned slightly earlier than ds (ie he was 6/7 weeks older) - didn't make a blind bit of difference ime.

I'm all for holding off as long as you can. It's better for the baby and much easier for you if you delay messing around with purees and finger food a bit longer.

We held out until 25 weeks when DS started waking up during the night and one bottle wasn't enough for him.

Started with baby rice (reasoning that it would taste similar to milk), then moved onto fruit/veg puree (didn't last long!), then finger food & semi-purees. When we started, we'd give him a good portion of rice, let him play for a bit, then give him milk to fill up his tummy for bedtime.

My best book in the kitchen is 'Finger food for babies and toddlers' by Jenny Mazies. It's good food, easy to cook, and most of it is stuff you'll already have in the kitchen. Haven't had a meal rejected from the book yet.
