What is your toddler/pre-schooler having for lunch and snacks today?

I'm feeling a bit stuck in a rut and hoping for some ideas - especially if they involve getting some more veg in during the day.

DS (4) has had some malt loaf this morning and is currently munching on some pitta breads with a cream cheese/carrot mix and a few slices of apple.

What will yours be having today?

Spag Bol made with carrots and peppers and a but of garlic bread. Jelly and mandarin for pudding.

I'm going for a dinner at lunch today.

MegBusset · 05/03/2012 12:41

DS2 (2) had two satsumas and a Babybel for morning snack. Lunch was toasted bagel with honey and cream cheese, and cucumber sticks. He's at preschool this afternoon so will have whatever fruit/veg they have in, and when I pick him up will have a cereal bar and probably some more fruit. Haven't decided on tea yet!

shelley72 · 05/03/2012 12:41

breakfast - porridge with toast and smear of honey
snack - banana
lunch - scrambled egg on toast, carrot muffin, clementine
snack - apple/grape mix
dinner - spag bol, yoghurt, mango

i have 2 DCs, one dairy and soya intolerant and so i tend to find 'easy' things during the day that they can both eat, i'm aware its probably not a very healthy diet!

TheScottishPlayer · 05/03/2012 13:02

It sounds healthy to me Shelley72!

Fisharefriendsnotfood · 05/03/2012 13:41

Shelley were you by any chance on rollercoaster.ie?

whattodoo · 05/03/2012 13:42

Cheerios with pear for breakfast.
Fruit toast for snack.
Mac & broccoli cheese with toms for lunch. Yoghurt after.
Prob a biscuit for snack this afternoon.
Banana sandwich for tea.
I'm aware there's too much carbs/starch but generally she has a pretty balanced diet

ISpyPlumPie · 05/03/2012 13:44

Oh forgot - breakfast was porrige and raspberries (alternate with shreddies!)

SkiBumMum · 05/03/2012 13:57

Breakfast - Cheerios & milk and Crumpet & marmite

Snack - Smoothie - banana & strawb - & some bday cake

Lunch - Toasted cheese & [naice] ham sarnie. Grapes & carrot sticks. Yog.

Afternoon snack likely to be satsuma and/or babybel (if she hasn't clocked that there is more bday cake in the tin Wink)

For tea we are making fish pie with salmon and peas & spinach and she's already decided banana custard for pudding.

Potentially mini-Weetabix before bed too.

Oh to be able to eat whatever I fancy and not have a scrap of fat on me!

shelley72 · 05/03/2012 14:12

fish - sorry for asking but what is rollercoaster?

leftmysociallifeatthedoor · 05/03/2012 14:16

Breakfast - not sure as dh did it, porridge or cereal and yogurts I'd imagine.

Lunch- cheese sandwich and custard. Was meant to have pomegranate seeds but I dropped them.

Snack - not sure yet, some grapes or tomatoes probably.

Dinner - no idea at all. Tomato and vegetable pasat with cheese is looking most likely, with yogurt.

chocolatecheesecake · 05/03/2012 14:50

Breakfast-weetabix
Snack-organix gingerbread men
Lunch-houmous and pitta, mackerel pâté (DD less sure about this!), fruit purée, fairy cake
Snack-raisins
Tea-spag bol with hidden veg, yogurt

TheScottishPlayer · 05/03/2012 15:40

This is great, thanks everyone. I think I could do with making a list of snacks/lunch food and rotate when we do the weekly shop!

That'd be a no then Shelley Grin

It's an Irish forum and you have a very similar name to someone on my Antenatal thread there years ago

shelley72 · 05/03/2012 18:05

sadly not then - just not managed to think of a 'proper' MN name yet Grin

MegBusset · 05/03/2012 18:07

Tea ended up being sausage, beans and waffles with jelly for pudding

lemniscate · 05/03/2012 18:17

18moDD and almost 4yo DS here.

Breakfast: porridge for DS with banana, honey and a sprinkle thing of nuts, seeds and raisins. Weetabix and toast for DD who refuses fruit before 10am
SNack at nursery/preschool as I'm working today
Lunch: DD at nursery, DS had packed lunch of marmote sandwiches, cucumber and olives, yoghurt, satsuma, fruity oat biscuit at preschool
Pm snack at home - Organix oat bar and blueberries
Tea - Japanese chicken curry with rice which sounds posh but is just v mild but yummy curry of potato, carrots, green beans, chicken, curry powder, garlic, onion and ginger and bizarrely apple (which you can taste but adds sweetness). Veg goes soft so easy to eat. I had it too - Tia a proper adult recipe!

If we hadn't had that leftover it would have been my favourite kids pasta sauce of tomato, lentils and either squash or sweet potato with other veg like onion, celery, carrot in it and then served with broccoli and sweetcorn on the side. It's a guaranteed hit in our house and v healthy so I always make a tonne in the freezer.

lemniscate · 05/03/2012 18:19

That's probably one of our healthier/more adventurous days Grin

TheScottishPlayer · 06/03/2012 15:26

Sounds very healthy lemniscate. Share to care more detailed recipes for your curry and tomato sauce?

Thanks again everyone for sharing!
