Gammon, stuck for ideas on what to do with it

Just that really.

I have one of those small half-circle lumps of raw gammon, it's labelled gammon joint but I'm not sure. Unsmoked, fat trimmed, wrapped in plastic.

What the bloody hell can I do with it aside from throw it in the freezer and forget about it ?

Usually I would use gammon to make broth but I'm a but sick of the same old. I have the standard store cupboard ingredients and vegetables and can easily obtain whatever else is needed. I'd prefer something in the slowcook but it's not essential.

In return I can share my recipe for my 1247875 calories a slice Mars Bar cake (very unhealthy but good for a treat now and again).

I chuck mine in the slow cooker with a big bottle of full fat coke... I'm sure there are nicer ways to do it, but I don't think you could have an easier way! Is yum though it doesn't need slicing as much as dissecting :)

The coke method is yummy! Or you can just stick it in a pan of water and boil it. You can roast it too, nice with a honey and mustard glaze. I often serve gammon with onion sauce or apple sauce. In fact, that's what we're having for tea tonight!

Put honey and mustard on it, wrap in foil and bake. Serve with cauli cheese and mash

I boil mine, we use the stock for pea and ham soup, have hot ham with cauliflower cheese or ham n eggs and slice the rest for sandwiches. If you have a big one you can freeze slices of cooked ham in small packets for later lunch ham.

It's very nice baked/roast but can be rather salty. You can also cut slices off it to fry as a very superior bacon, or after roasting it, treat it like ham for sandwiches. Far better than thin cut stuff from the supermart.

It can also go in a minestrone, or any other recipie calling for ham or bacon.

I did once try to work out what the difference is between ham and gammon, couldn't find any certain way.

Lots of ideas, thanks :)

Mars Bar cake is super-easy, I'm rubbish with quantities though - I do it by eye. Make a biscuit base in a cake/cheesecake dish, you don't need a huge dish as a tiny slice of this goes a long way, it's very sweet and very calorific. Chop up four Mars Bars (the dish I use is about the size of a side plate, use more if you've got a big tin). Melt the Mars Bars, stir in 3-4 tbsp of double cream. Pour it all over the biscuit base and leave it in the fridge to set.
