I needed some Anchovie fillets for a meal I made last night, I only needed three, could I have frozen what was left? They were in light olive oil?

Just a thought, it's actually Anchovy isn't it? Looked at "Anchovie" for ages, knew it was wrong but couldn't suss out why - Anchovy, singular and Anchovies, plural.

If you keep them in the fridge in the original packaging and oil they last for Aeons MrsSpoon. Lol at anchovie tho

Oooh, I'm thinking the original packaging is always glass jars, but it is sometimes sardine style cans isn't it? Transfer them to anything other than a tin can.

How likely are you to use them soon? if not very soon I would bin them, sea products are particularly nasty if they go off and you eat them.

The tin said once opened use within 2 days and no mention of freezing. Freezing not an option then?

They have hit the bin already but wondered for future reference. DH also considered making a sandwich out of them (he likes all fishy things in tins) but neither of us was sure if they were edible this way. Anchovy virgins.

I buy the ones in jars and keep them for weeks once opened, as long as the fish are well covered with oil (I add more if its a bit low)

Thanks, I'll look out for the ones in jars in future, think Tesco only had tins IIRC. They are too expensive to use three and chuck the rest.

TBH I always left them out of recipes that required them as I thought they would be disgusting.
