New slow cooker arrived yesterday (crockpot sauté ) and I am sure it is going to TOTALY transform my life.

However despite pouring over recipes in cook books, online and on MN,nothing has really tickled my fancy IYSWIM.

So could you lovely mums netters post your favourite slow cooker meals
Not too keen on curries but like everything else. Lamb dishes especially welcome for St David's day. T.I.A. X

Hi hope you don't mind me jumping on to your thread. I'm looking for nice recipes for a slow cooker too. Smile

Pulled pork. Pork Loin, onion, bbq sauce. WAIT, pull apart and eat with bread.
Chili - Just chili, the long cooking is good though.

I love my slow cooker but don't think I'm doing it right somehow. Fab for bolognese and stews, but roasts have come out dry. It's as if it's too fast for a slow cooker IYSWIM. Putting it on before I go to work in the morning, even on the slowest setting, results in overdone contents.

I am a thread killer.

use your usual recipes, but instead of putting any stock in just put the cube.

BartletForAmerica · 29/02/2012 19:52

I tried the garlic chicken one on here a few weeks ago and (apart from having to peel 40 garlic cloves) it was absolutely delicious!

BartletForAmerica · 29/02/2012 19:53

This is lovely as well:

ooh, could you please link to the garlic chicken one? (if poss) Remember reading about it, but didn't have a slow cooker then.....

Thanks :)

did a nice one tonight - was supposed to be chicken, bacon and potato like the recipe in this month's Good Food Magazine, but we didn't have any bacon so used chorizo. It was bloody delicious! Would be better with a handful of peas or mangetout chucked in towards the end.

Bolognaise, chili, a gammon, a whole chicken, pork in apple and cider, beef stew - anything really just use very little or no water as it will make its own.

LetsKateWin · 02/03/2012 09:35

Ooooooh. Garlic chicken sounds good. Mmmmmm. I may have to give that a try.

The M&S cooking chorizo is really good for slow cooking.

iloveminieggs · 02/03/2012 09:58

Valium for chilli or spag bol do u just use your normal recipe with less water? How much less water? I don't normally use jars of sauces but wondered what curry would be like if I just added chicken, onion and jar of sauce? I love my slow cooker but as you can prob tell I'm very inexperienced with it, all I have used is the slow cooker sauce sachet things from supermarket!

valiumredhead · 02/03/2012 10:26

For bolognaise I use no water at all and just a minute amount to dissolve a stock cube.

Re curry - I don't normally use packets and jars but they are so nice in the slow cooker as the flavour is very concentrated. With packets again I use very little water - if the recipe says 400 mls I would use 50 - 100 at the most. You can always add water later if needed.

FredFredGeorge · 02/03/2012 10:31

No water at all for chili or bolagnaise or in fact everything we cook in it. Some beer if it's a stew maybe, but generally not much liquid at all.

Madondogs · 03/03/2012 14:00

Thank you so much . It's the whole liquid thing that makes me nervous...will just have to have a go . Thanks again, lots of the recipes sound delicious.

I am new to this slow cooker thing too, I got one last week, we have a strogonoff in it at the moment and last week we did a curry that was okish, i have a gammon from the supermarket what is the best thing to do with it?

Kennyp · 03/03/2012 21:54

Skinned chicken thighs with a half price lloyd grossman sauce in this house. Divine.

valiumredhead · 04/03/2012 10:10

Wrt Gammon - por boiling water over it in the sink then put it in the SC with 2 TBS boiling water and leave it - does in mine quite quickly, about 4-5 hours.
