Quiche
Frittata
Omelette
Pasta (bake) with cheese, meat or fish sauce
Cheese savouries
Savoury muffins with cheese / meat
Bacon sandwich
Savoury pancakes (you could make filled American pancakes with bacon)
Pasties
Burgers

Yes, pots of cream cheese would be good, although interestingly cream cheese has a lot less protein than normal cheese (8.5% compared with 25% for normal cheese in the brands I buy).

We live out of Lock & Lock tupperware boxes. Grin

Animal-based proteins tend to have higher levels of protein than plant-based one. So although lentils are cheaper than meat, per gram of protein, some meat is actually cheaper & you need to eat less. (When I buy slightly reduce organic pork mince, for example, it works out cheaper per gram of protein than lentils.)

Cheese savouries - from Delia

2oz wholewheat flour
1/4 tsp salt (I don't use any)
1 pinch cayenne pepper
1 twist ground black pepper
2oz grated Cheddar (I grate in food processor)
2oz grated Cheshire cheese
2oz butter, at room temperature if making by hand

Optional toppings: celery salt, garlic salt, mild curry powder or cayenne pepper

Pre-heat oven to GM 5 / 190 degrees C

  1. Sift flour (and salt)
  2. Add cayenne & black pepper
  3. Add the cheeses and butter and rub to the crumbly stage (or just whizz it all in the food processor - you can use cold butter if you do this)
  4. Bring the mixture together. It shouldn't need any liquid, but if it does, add a drop of milk.
  5. Roll out the dough to about 1/8 inch / 3mm and use a 1 or 1.5 inch cutter to cut out the biscuits.
  6. Put them fairly close together on a lightly greased baking sheet
  7. Sprinkle topping (if any) on them & bake for 10-12 mins before cooling on a wire rack.

My 2 y.o. loves both eating & helping to make these. :)

familyfun All the food/diet changes recommended sound great, but I would also suggest a trip to your GP to chat about your symptoms. I got like this last year, and was finally diagnosed with an overactive thyroid. The weight loss, your babies age and the constant hunger/shakiness all suggest to me that a quick blood test to rule this out would be a good idea.

I find I get the shakes just before luchtime if I don't have a healthy breakfast. During the week I have either porridge or muesli with some blueberries/strawberries chucked on,with milk. But sometimes at the weekend I get up slightly later, then am rushing round so have a very quick bowl of cornflakes with a teeny bit of sugar on. But lunchtime on those days I am noticeably starving, shakey and irritable and I blame it totally on my high GI breakfast.

thanks again for ideas, i have been eating better and have been less shaky although still hungry.
i take iron sachets when on period and wonder if this is why im not shaky now?

Your problem, Crystals, is the focus on carbs. Try eating protein (with some fat) instead, and you will not feel hungry. Nor will you be grumpy!

Why not try scrambled eggs, or bacon and egg, or boiled/poached eggs. You could have any of this with a slice of wholemeal toast as well.

But if you eat a breakfast bap with all those things in it, you are having too much carbohydrate and too much fat, which really is a recipe for disaster - at least in the 'putting on weight' stakes.

Scrambled eggs are the quickest - pan on hob, butter in pan to melt, beat eggs (season), chuck in pan on med/high heat and stir quickly. Serve.

Toast probably won't have popped out of the toaster by that point!

Excellent thread. I had a low sugar level 'attack' over the weekend, hate them. Been having them for years and reading the above has given me some ideas as to why.
I wish this forum had a 'Like' button as per those social media sites that the youngsters use these days. CrystalsAreCool your bap sounds magnificent!!
