Can you do potato dauphinoise type dish with just milk?

I just want to bung some chicken and stuff in the oven and just leave it to cook. I thought some potato dauphinoise thing might be good but I don't have any cream.
Will I be able to make something similar using just milk and grated cheese on top?

How about making potatoes boulangere instead? Sliced pots layered with onions ( I like leeks instead) and black pepper, tip in some stock, dump in oven for a long time. Lovely.

I love dauphinoise but think it is best with cream in. Or preferably, bought from m and s Grin

Thank you!
Sounds like exactly what I wanted and looks healthier than a creamy dauphinoise type dish.

I only ever use milk because by the time I've decided I want them the dinner is on and its too much hassle to go back to tesco. I don't think my kids know the difference :)

I often use a mixture of cream and stock to make it a bit lighter. Can't see any reason why you couldn't use use milk.
