Just a quickie, I know you can't boil soya milk, but how about the ones in my thread title?

I can't find any info on the carton of Oatly I have to say you can't, but just want to be sure.

Thanks! Smile

I cook with Oatly, and have never had any problems when boiling. But I have never, as it happens, boiled 'neat' Oatly, so I don't know how it responds when it's not mixed with anything else. Similarly rice milk.

yeah you can. oatly splits less easily than soya milk.

what is it you are making?

thrifty · 25/02/2012 17:26

You can get non curdle soya milk too, sunrise make it. 99p in Tesco in a beige container. can't comment on the others as have not used them.

PeanutButterChocolate · 25/02/2012 17:32

I cook porridge in rice milk and make hot drinks with it and have not had a problem. I don't live in the UK though so our brands are probably different from yours...Our stores do have a type of soy milk that is especially for adding to coffee/tea and does not curdle.

oatly has a good recipe resource on their website, and according to them you can cook with it (haven't ever tried myself)

I have cooked with rice milk - eg making porridge, and that was fine.

pollyblue · 25/02/2012 18:02

Ah thanks. Not making anything special, just wondering what I can use to make things like hot choc and porridge. I've just recently gone dairy free, a few months of trial and error have made me realise my asthma is much better if I avoid dairy, so I'm still finding my way with substitutes for milk.

I haven't seen the sunrise soya, will have a look next time I'm in Tesco.

I also do all sorts with rice milk, they generally also have recipes on the sides of the boxes

I've made porridge with Oatly for ages. Its lovely!

I'm now back on dairy, but keep a carton of Oatly ready just for porridge.

everything splits in coffee i've found. even oat milk and rice milk. i assume it's somethin to do with the acidity of the coffee?
that said, i was in a lovely coffee place in Penzance one time and they made me a coffee with soya milk and it didn't split at all! no idea what they did to it though

but yes, all of them are fine for making porridge, rice pudding etc.

silverfrog · 25/02/2012 19:12

dh uses oatly in coffee. he says that sometimes it splits, and sometimes it doesn't, but he isn't sure why

he thinks:

decaff is better than caff (ie oatly doesn't split as much)
deffo not to use with instant, but ground coffee ok (as above)

thrifty · 25/02/2012 19:40

Thisisyesterday, they probably use the sunrise non curdle, I use it at work, I sell coffee, it makes a great cappuccino/latte, it froths really well, I've not had it split yet. It's in the longlife milk isle.

thisisyesterday · 25/02/2012 19:43

will check that out! i usually buy oat milk as it's mainly used by my 2 little boys and i don't like them to have a lot of soya, but might try the sunrise just for coffee purposes :-D

thrifty · 25/02/2012 23:18

:) its a shame they dont make it in smaller packs, I usually end up throwing 1/2 of the litre away at the end of the week as I've only one or two customers that take it.
