Use a tin of tomatoes that was damaged?

I never purposely buy crushed tins, as have some vague memory that the food could be contaminated but in my home shopping delivery yesterday there were two. I know I could get a refund but do I really have to throw them away? I have a day of stocking the freezer planned so could do with using them but am nervous!

Any thoughts appreciated :)

I do
Open the tin, see how much damage has been done inside, if you are worried?

Afraid it never entered my mind that there might be a problem Blush

Thanks Huevos

I think I may be being a little bit over cautious! Blush

Funny my Mum used to always say to avoid damaged tins so i still do. Given she was raised in the 40's 50's 60's this may well have been the advice back then. Perhaps these days a damaged tin isn't such a problem. Would love to kno for sure though.

Along with her advicenot to eat too much pork. I can't find a scientific answer for this one either but I kno several people of my Mums era who say the same thing. Anyway. That's a bit off the damaged tin topic.

It's because dented & damaged tins might have microscopic holes or their seald might be damaged and that lets air in, causing spoilage. Just open it and have a look. Smell, sight, taste - you'll probably know if it's off.
