I think it's just so they can cover themselves. What they are saying is that there may be a danger of cross-contamination so it could be from any nuts as it is an accident.

So a packet of cashews says 'may contain nuts' because they can't guarantee that a almond hasn't found it's way in there and cereals all say it as they are made on lines that make other cereals that contain four different nuts.

yep, many nuts get processed on the same lines so they contain traces. My niece was wildly allergic to peanuts but not tree nuts, but the only safe way for her to eat tree nuts is to peel them out of the shell herself. She couldn't buy, say, almonds, that weren't processed on the same line as peanuts.

good luck with feeding your son. If you haven't already, you may find Anaphylaxis UK a good support.

my son tested negative for almonds and hazelnuts but the hospital told me not to let him eat them, another nightmare as he loves battenburg cake, nutella chocolate spread etc, my other 2 sons dont have any allergies so you can imagine the grief and tantrums they throw, but then they do realise how serious it is at the end of the day,so we havent had to use his epipens again.I dot worry so much when he is at home, but now that he is getting more independent I worry when he"s out anyone else having this problem

ds1 is allergic to peanuts( has epi pen). He was tested for walnuts, almonds, hazlenuts etc but it is just peanuts he has a problem with! DS is 8 now and when he was tested the doctor told us to give him other types of nut as this will hopefully increase his tolerance to penuts. Will have to wait and see at his next appt! On this advice I have given him other types of nut and he was fine ( I did sit in the hospital car park though to test this ou!!!)

My ds is allergic too - he carries an dpi pen. The advice we were given by Guy's is to avoid ALL nuts because of cross contamination.

We have found Tesco the best and most clear for labelling.

HELLO VALIUMREDHEAD,i dont think any parent thats seen their kids have an allergic reaction to nuts would want to risk it happening again, its terrifying. some people think im overeacting sometimes but its not their bairn is it.I wont let my ds anywhere near anything nutty at all.
