I'm looking to invest in some new pans. Which ones would you recommend?

ooo me too, I seem to have only 2 saucepans, one of which just isn't really big enough

I have no idea where to start looking

I am saving up to but Scanpan Fusion pans. They are 5 ply aluminium & stainless steel.

TrinityRhino · 17/02/2012 10:31

scanpan fusion sound vaire posh Grin

are they extrememly expensive?

HuevosRancheros · 17/02/2012 11:30

shit, yes they are!

4merlyknownasSHD · 17/02/2012 12:00

That is why I am saving up.....have been for two years now!

TrinityRhino · 17/02/2012 12:39

oh but they are gorgeous aren't they

HuevosRancheros · 17/02/2012 13:50

They are beautiful.... on a more practical note Wink (unless you have that kind of money to spend), I have two from Habitat, one from John Lewis. All stainless steel, all lasted me for years, all look like new. I would buy them again :)

Taffeta · 17/02/2012 18:16

The best ones I ever bought were the cheapest. From Carrefour in France 10 years ago.

I also love my Lakeland frying pan. Waaaaay better than the Le Creuset one I had. Shock

StuckUpTheFezziwigTree · 17/02/2012 18:18

I love my circulon hard anodised pans. God even heat distribution and nothing sticks!

valiumredhead · 17/02/2012 18:25

Stellar pans are the best imo and can be ordered on line for about a third of what they are in the shops.

conspire · 17/02/2012 18:36

I'm saving up for these

When I can afford them I am selling all my circulon because they aren't safe for pet birds. Nice pans it you don't have a bird though.

Best one we have is Le Creuset Trivita (I think it's called) - stainless steel rather than enamelled. Perfect weight, heat distribution, easy to clean, 10 years old and still as good as new. Also vg are Le Pentole, come in fantastic sizes. But expensive

BettyBathroom · 17/02/2012 19:16

We had to buy something suitable for induction and after much deliberating plumped for Le Crueset 3 ply - handle felt comfortable - so many have chunky man sized handles.

They had a helper handle too for lifting heavy pans full of food. Handles are made of stainless steel so I can pop them in the oven if need be.

They have really good heat distribution and the 3 pans nest inside each other for easy storage.

Also they look like cook's saucepans not gimmicky ones to match your kitchen.

Mind you had we been looking for non induction pans the chioce would have been much larger and we possibly would have made a different decision.

Final thing - don't spend a lot of money on non stick - it doesn't matter how much they cost they will not last John Lewis The pan is cheap and works well as long as you don't need induction.

TrinityRhino · 17/02/2012 22:47

I have to ask why the circulon is no good for pet birds?

conspire · 17/02/2012 23:30

Its not specific to circulon, its all non stick that have teflon stuff on them which is almost all of them.

you can read all about it on this injured and orphaned starling website

The main risk is if you leave them on the gas after you have taken the food out which I do all the time

Birds have funny lungs so they can't deal with the toxic fumes.

I've got a big Ikea pan - \link{http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/00101155/\I think it's this one} (shiny inner, not non-stick)

it's brilliant & cleans up like new every time, I don't know which others they do in the same range but it's a good price, would def recommend
