Halogen Oven help!

Have been struggling for the past 2 weeks with no oven (our house is rented and has a built in over that has broken). The landlord's maintenance guy has just been and said that the oven is so old he can't get hold of the parts locally, and will have to order them. Will take another 2 weeks for the parts to come.

So... I bought myself a halogen oven, as I am fed up of not being able to cook stuff in my oven. But I have NO idea how to use it. The leaflet that came with it is completely useless.

So - those in the "know" (please let there be some here!) I want to know simple things like - the leaflet says the lower rack is for different types of food stuff than the upper rack, but gives no clue as to what the different types might be. What sort of ovenware do I use in there? Is tin fine? Ceramic? Silicon? Where can I buy ovenware to fit it?

The racks are puzzling me a bit too - the leaflet says you can use both at the same time if you are cooking 2 sorts of food, but the top one is only about 4cm taller than the bottom one? Do I stand the top one ontp of the baking try which is on the bottom one?

Yours, extremely puzzled by it all and wishing she had spent her £30 on a deep fat fryer instead, Oakie. xxx

Take a look at halogenovenrecipes.forumotion.com/
lots of recipes. I bought one recently too as my old gas oven is on its last legs and I am still getting used to it but have found lots of tips and advice on the website.

Woo hoo! Someone spotted my thread! Grin

Thanks, Danceswithdragons. I will check out that website.

I did try to use my oven last weekend - plugged it in, turned it on - and the bulb went "pop". ?I am not very lucky at the moment.

I have cooked breaded mushrooms in the replacement - and to be honest they tasted really WEIRD and I cannot for the life of me work out why. I washed the bowl etc before I started.... All I can guess is that it is a bit like a new heater, and you get weird smells (and therefore tastes) for a bit before it settles in... Confused

Can't help Grin
But my mum bought me one, I read the instructions and was no wiser, and it resides in the cupboard glaring at me Blush
Have you anything else you can cook with or borrow off someone? Like a George foreman?
