Wedding Cupcakes. All one flavour or a few different ones?

Kayzr · 10/02/2012 17:02

I am making cupcakes for my wedding. Its only a little wedding with 20 people going. So we are having a little chocolate cake to be the cake we cut and then I am making some cupcakes that people can either have as pudding or take home with them.

I was going to make chocolate cupcakes but we are having the chocolate cake. So it might be a bit too chocolatey, which doesn't bother me but might bother others.

So I thought maybe some chocolate, some vanilla, maybe red velvet or lemon.

But DP doesn't think it matters that much.

So all chocolate or a mix?

Also if you have a favourite cupcake flavour or recipe please share.

Thanks

We had a bigger chocolate cake to cut, and then half chocolate, half lemon for the little cakes.

Like you, I would have been fine with all chocolate, but oddly some people choose things other than chocolate Hmm Grin

have a mixture

droves · 10/02/2012 17:07

A mix , everyone likes different things .

I make vanilla ones , basic Fairy cake mixture and add vanilla ( from pod) .

Lemon ones ( mini lemon drizzle cakes)

Chocolate sounds delicious .

Have you seen the edible fairy dust ? It's like glitter and you sprinkle it on the icing .( if your after sparkles , great for little girls birthday cakes too )

Kayzr · 10/02/2012 17:08

Droves, yep I have loads of edible glitter stuff. I like glitter Grin

Confused my links never work properly , sorry .

I make lots of cupcakes for various events. These go down well: chocolate with black cherry filling and vanilla or choc top, choc with choc fudge filling and vanilla topping, lemon with lemon sauce filling and lemon cream cheese top, vanilla cake with starwberry filling and cream and meringue topping. If you're using fondant, you can still use all but the vanilla/strawberry, just use a thin layer of topping under the fondant (which I cut to size using a fluted cookie cutter).

www.bakingmad.com/recipes/cupcakes here you go. Some lovely ones here.

TwllBach · 10/02/2012 19:32

Definitely have a mix Grin can I ask - how many are you making and how far in advance are you making them?

Kayzr · 10/02/2012 19:34

Its ok I found them.

I might have to treat myself to that hummingbird book. It looks very good.

TwllBach I don't know yet. We only have 20 guests. So I thought I'd maybe do 24 because we have the cake for cutting. But I really don't know. I get married on a Thursday so I might bake them on the Tuesday and then decorate on the Wednesday.

I hope that will be ok anyway.

A cake is a cake for pity sake....that's the point (people do not get to choose) You are making additional work for yourself and are under the illusion that you are somehow making the event more special! Serve the cake you like. You cannot please all the people all the time. Have a great day and congratulations btw!

personally, I would have a mix - we had a cupcake tower for our wedding - half vanilla in silver cases and half chocolate in black cases as we had vanilla icing on both - case colours were so guests could identify what flavour they could pick.
I dont really like chocolate cake so I would always go for a vanilla or fruit flavoured one. However in general, i find chocolate cakes tend to be more popular than others when there is a mix. (i make cupcakes quite alot for birthdays, parties, special occasions etc and I always make around 2/3rds choc based - [red velvet/choc fudge/mint choc chip etc] and the other 3rd vanilla/fruit based such as raspberry/white chocolate which always go down well.
