Sandwich ideas for a veggie with a nut allergy who doesn't like cheese?

I have been very happily giving ds ham etc. almost every day but he no longer wishes to eat meat. Atm he gets jam on Fridays because we don't eat meat on fridays but I don't want to do that everyday because I want him to have some protein. He will eat cheese in a sauce but he doesn't like cheese sandwiches (too cheesy). He likes egg but I worry about them going stinky. I don't really want to give him cheese and onion rolls etc too much because my dd would want them too and she is a bit overweight. I do give him pasta sometimes but not everyday. Is their some magical quorn solution? I thought about a quorn chickenburger with salad but I don't know if quorn is acceptable cold.

Any ideas?

Actually would he eat mozarella? (It's not too 'cheesy') goes so well with fresh tomato and basil

I rather like the quorn pretend chicken, really nice with a bit of salad and mayo.

I had thinly sliced smoked tofu in my sandwich today, it was lovely.

why doesn't he want to eat meat? have you talked about this with him? imo "fake meat" like quorn chicken is rather missing the point if he doesn't want to eat meat....

This is nice. Also slimming world does a version of hummus with chickpeas, garlic, lemon and natural yoghurt instead of tahini - so no potential bad things!

Quorn do a bacon thing which I like to make into BLT. Also, quorn sausage butty, or veggie hotdog sausages (from Holland and Barrett)

I'm not a fan of Quorn ham, but my DH has it in sarnies. And the kids (3 and 1) like it, they also like 'real' ham, so he might like it?

Loads of ideas

Morrisons do a lovely mushroom pate, can scoff a whole tub in one sitting Blush

My dd hates cheese so her current favourite is to have some bread and butter and a whole hard boiled egg.

Just to add, it's actually very unhealthy to have processed meat like ham on a regular basis so it's not a bad thing to have some other options.

When I was vegan and still getting packed lunches my dad would make a cannelini (whitebean) filling. It was the beans, mashed, with nice olive oil, salt, pepper and parsley and whatever other seasoning you like. Protein right there. Don't make it too runny though or it'll slop out :)

Also making bean burgers is an option. You can maybe make the burgers and freeze before frying so you don't have to worry about getting through them in three days. With mashed beans, egg, maybe feta if he likes it, seasoning, coated in flour and fried in a little oil with some bread or a roll? Or no bread at all, yoghurt with herbs to dip? They're lush!

Oh and tapenade (olive paste) with salad leaves, grated carrot, etc. Does he like soft goats' cheese (usually sold in a little plastic container in the supermarket. Can be spread.)? It's not too cheesy. Good source of protein, can be made savoury with salad leaves and cucumber, that sort of thing, or sweet by adding a little honey or putting it on raising bread.

*raisin bread

OnlyFunctionsWithCaffeine · 08/02/2012 20:49

You can get quorn cold 'meat' for sandwiches Smile

If he's allergic to nuts then be careful with chickpeas.
Would he eat a little pot of rice and veg or pasta salad?

Equal quantatites of grated carrot and cheese.

My mum used to make it for me when I was the worlds fussiest eater. I still have it now.

As long as there is plenty of carrot it doesn't really cheesy

GrimmaTheNome · 08/02/2012 23:37

My dog went Hmm at the quorn ham too...and he ain't a fussy eater. Its certainly no substitute for the 'nice ham' which is all that MNers and their families should eat Grin
