A child-friendly place to eat near Cutteslow & Sunnymead Park in Oxford?

Am venturing there next week, with kids 1, 3 and 4, to meet halfway with a friend and her two kids. We don't know the area and would love a recommendation for somewhere cheap and cheerful...

Get the bus from the main road outside the park down to Summertown - about 5 mins and get off outside M&S.

There are loads of different eating places in Summertown.

Agree with above. The m&s cafe does kids lunch bags. More pricey but very nice is the cafe in barefoot books- big new childrens bookshop. It even does art classes, story time etc

Ah, great, thank you both of you. Somebody else mentioned the Barefoot Books café too.

The Mamma Mia Pizzeria is always wildly popular. Just get off at the stop before M&S and cross the road where the HSBC is and walk down South Parade. Might be a bit to much for toddlers but they are generally super with children and a carafe of house wine and a pizza for you and your friend may hit the spot. Wink.

Barefoot books is a newish place in what was an old bathroom shop so I can't really comment on that.

Ooh, that makes me hungry just looking at their menu! Mmmhhh...

Yes love mamma mia was there the other night. Pizzas are divine. Such a shame they don't do childrens menu, although my 2 yr old can almost polish off a whole one!

Morebeta- barefoot books is magical a great addition to Summertown and very north Oxford! Worth going in for a coffee OP.
Where do you live now morebeta? I've been on threads with you before about property but under a diff name.

MoreBeta · 08/02/2012 18:40

I go to Oxford 2 - 3 times a year, have friends there and was at uni there so I know it really well. Sadly, I live a long way away now in a much less nice but far cheaper place.

I'm guessing your name is a clue to where you live? Grin

I Mamma Mia children-friendly despite there being no children menu? (there will be 5 of them under the age of 4 so we won't be inconspicuous!)

Yes very. They have a special sticker book and crayons. They can either share pizzas or have starter size pastas. The pizzas are lush!!

Cool. With the weather the way it is, I think it might be 10 mins in the park and an hour in the restaurant! :o

Is parking a 'mare round there? I've been on Google's streetmap and it looks like mostly residential parking?

Lots of 2 hr free slots in summertown eg on south parade
If not go to cat park in diamond place

Check out barefoot books. Their website should have a timetable of events.

Thank you so much for all your help! :)

We ended up in Barefoot Books (as we parked in the car park near Coop and it was closer than the Mamma Mia). I did drive down South Parade and drooled in at the window of MM but no parking spaces to be found.

Thanks again all :)

Ooo great. And what did you think of bb? Prob less exciting if you're not a local! I've only had cake there not lunch

Flubba · 14/02/2012 07:25

Good food and lovely that we could pretty much let the kids down to play on the carpeted area while we were finishing our meal. We managed to time it really badly and arrive and leave just in the middle of no organised things, but had we been staying longer I'd have loved for them to do some of the activities.

Thanks again :)
