Very easy, child friendly curry please...

DC (7 and 6) have had curry at school. The food is pretty good at their school, they often come home with ideas for home meals they've had at school, and it means they are keen to try curry at home. DH and I love a bit of curry, but I am worried our usuals might be a bit spicy/over complicated and the last thing I want to do now they are interested is to put them off!

I am not clear from what DS said as to whether they had a tomato type curry or a cream based one. He just said "it was really nice and had chicken in it with rice on the side"!

Does anyone have any (simple and unhot) child friendly curries they are prepared to share? I would prefer to make from scratch and have most standard spices etc.

TIA

Parkas korma paste and a tin of coconut milk or tomatoes

Doh! Patak's korma paste, autocorrect problems!

This what we call 'Childrens' Curry' in my house, always a hit!

At the risk of sounding obvious, I just do one curry in two pans at the same time, one with a shed load of spice for me and one for my pansy DH and the kids. Same amount of chopping etc required, but one extra pan to wash. Five happy people :)

sliced onions, chicken, medium curry powder, natural yoghurt, thick cream, chashews (loosen up with a little chicken stock to desired consistency)

served with rice with sultanas in

TrinityRhino · 08/02/2012 14:23

cashews...I meant

For anyone who opened this thread who doesn't want to make from scratch, my DD and her best friend are both fussy eaters but wolf down chicken curry made with Lloyd Grossmanns Korma or Green Thai (I get it whenever its on special offer). Usually add a red pepper for extra colour and veg.

Authentic curries are not necessarily hot, although they have a blend of spices. What about this www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/quickchickenkorma_70529

I would go with a thai green curry to start with

suburbandream · 08/02/2012 17:40

There is one on here in the recipe section that I've done a couple of times and the DCs loved it. It's called child-friendly korma or something. Really easy and extremely mild - in fact I put a teaspoon of curry powder in last time and it was better (the recipe version has other spices but not actualy curry powder).

To add, although I am guilty of buying prepared sauces...i wonder if these, whether, Indian, Thai or Ilalian have the same beneficial effect as freshly made stuff.

Some great ideas here, just the kind of pointers I was after. Thanks very much.

I would take a different stance on this. I would make your curry, for your dh, the way you normally do. And then make it milder, by taking a portion out for the children and adding a dairy product, such as conconut milk, youghurt, especially something like greek youghurt, so its not too watery. Then dish up yours and theirs together. So easy.
