Food colouring paste/edible glitter

I've got some extremely snazzy biscuits lined up to make (unicorn poo cookies if you've seen them) and I'm looking to use some food colouring paste rather than the ridiculously messy liquid. I haven't used it before so does anyone have any brand recommendations, and do you know any good websites that sell cake decorations more cheaply than specialist cooking shops/larger supermarkets?

I'd use Squires Kitchen for the pastes, but am interested to hear any answers about cheap cake decorations

Tbh I would always just go to Asda for these kinds of things, but if you are you planning to make industrial amounts of biscuits I can see why need to economise!

Hopefully more sensible advice will be along soon.

Sugarflair is the most widely availabe, I think. Usually about £3 a pot, so Amazon is on parr with everywhere else.

Are you using it on fondant icing or something else?

pantaloons · 06/02/2012 19:25

I bought my paste off ebay and use sugarflair, like these. Have a flick through and find the best priced seller for the quantity you want

I also get the edible glitter that the body digests rather than the non-toxic variety which apparently goes straight through and gives real glittery poo! [GRIN]

oops I meant Grin, obviously!

Sugarflair is what I use, widely available online and most Sugarcraft/cake decorating shops stock them.

I used wilton ones from hobbycraft in my early days of cake decorating and find them a bit runny/messy.

Sugarflair ones really don't need to use much, literally just dip a cocktail stick in!

Hope this helps

Sugarflair sounding good then! Thanks for the recommendations. I'll have a search around on ebay and see if there's anyone who combines postage cheaply - I need several colours since it's effectively for a rainbow multi-coloured biscuit; they just look so awesome I can't resist trying them out on unsuspecting work colleagues for a bakesale! Glittery poo is a new mental image I never thought I'd have pantaloons...

Hello mushypeas, I LOVE the sound of those biscuits, where did you get the recipe from? x

ps you know edible glitter makes a ...er...reappearance...!

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 21/02/2012 12:42

I was able to get a rainbow mix of colour pastes for £10 free P+P (you get to choose 5 colours) which I thought was a bargain!

HowToLookGoodGlaikit · 21/02/2012 12:42

On ebay I mean!

See, this is why we need a cake/sugarcraft topic

Fwiw, I'd go with sugarflair too.

moonbells · 21/02/2012 12:49

Oh yes, don't use Wilton. They leak, too. I had to get one once as the local shop didn't have electric blue Sugarflair and I had to wrap it in clingfilm.

as for websites/suppliers, these two do mail order. Not just pastes!
