Best cheap and easy hot pudding to serve a lot of people

It's for a church lunch - guests are needy, not to raise money iyswim. We'll probably only charge £2 per head for 3 courses.

I'm in charge of soup (Delia's slow roast vegetable) and pudding. I want to do something hot with custard. I need something that can be made in advance and heated on the day and which will be quick and easy to serve (often my delicious looking puds look a bit of a mess by the time I get them out of the baking dish)

We're expecting around 35 people.

Any ideas?

I came to say rice pudding.

What a lovely thing you're doing.

In the Times magazine today (DH has to buy it for work) there is a recipe spread with 4 different crumbles and the one that caught my eye suggested chopping up some Mars Bars and mixing in with Apple to give 'Apple Chocolate and Caramel' crumble. Sounds deliciously evil and I will have to try it!

Toast and jam.

Agree with apple crumble - easy and economical to make and easy enough to re-heat and serve without looking a mess ! I have done similar events and would go with a crumble every time.

PS: Nigel Slater has a delicious chocolate and apple crumble recipe Smile

Is anyone else really hungry now or is it just me ?? !! Grin

The recipe of the week is rhubarb and apple crumble, I think that sounds a yummy combo. Well done Op for providing hot food for needy people.
