Sugar free toddler snacks - ideas please!

Grateful for any advice...

DD (2.5) has real sugar highs so I'm trying to avoid sugar as much as possible.

Main meals are easy, but what to give for mid morning and mid afternoon snacks? She's allowed fruit any time she wants so that doesn't count as a 'snack' in her book (needs to be appealing to a discerning 2 yr old!).

Crackers are getting a bit boring (and after all aren't they just biscuits?)

Thx so much in advance

Chunks of cheese or pieces of hard boiled egg

Breadsticks and hummous/cream cheese (my 2 year loves it, predominantly because its a licence to make mess Smile)

Cereal - little pot of cheerios

Natural yoghurt with fruit

I don't know whether your dd is able to handle a small amount of sugar but you could do some low sugar baking (banana bread, carrot cake, carrot & orange muffins etc.)

rice cakes with hummous/phili/marmite/peanut butter/100% fruit spread (from healthfood shops)/butter

cheese
bread sticks
mini pitta

smoothie
frozen yoghurt tubes
natural yoghurt and fruit
dried fruit (dates/apricots/prunes/raisins/figs)
homemade plain popcorn

also a snack bowl of a mixture of different things from above is always a hit here.

Thanks so much both!

Sorry I haven't got back sooner - I'm less that organised these days... :-)

This squidgy oat bar recipe contains no refined sugar and is a great toddler snack. Although it has apple juice-soaked raisins in to add the sweetness, I would imagine the GI value is very reasonable because of the oats, fibre and fat.

My DD loves them. Very easy to make and quite filling and you should be able to avoid blood sugar spikes.
