Good Food mag subscription?

Thinking of exchanging some Tesco vouchers for a Good Food Magazine subscription. I'm a fairly confident cook and baker but stuck in a bit of a rut and looking for some new ideas.

Is there a good variety of recipes for different skill levels? And some different ideas?

I subscribe to this and really like it - lots of nice seasonal recipes and some good ideas for family meals. I'm not a particularly skilled cook/baker but I find lots I can make and just drool over the rest! It's a lovely treat when it pops through the letterbox every month - much nicer than getting it from the shop!

I did exactly the same with my nectar points but I get Delicious instead, I prefer the recipes.

Thanks WannaBe - just what I needed to know. Am pretty clueless about what's seasonal but would like to learn.

Kellamity Tesco don't do Delicous but I'll look out for it next time I'm shopping

I did it for a year on Tesco vouchers - was really good for ideas.

I get for my birthday from my sister, but I have found most of the receipes are on goodfood website anyway so I will be stopping it this year.

Flyingoutofcontrol · 30/01/2012 17:48

I've just subscribed and am unreasonably excited about getting it.

I've decided to try 1-2 "new" dishes a week, and it will work out better than trying to buy different cookbooks... I hope!

Catsmamma · 30/01/2012 17:49

Do they do Olive?? I got that last year, and really enjoyed it.

threeisthemagicnumber · 30/01/2012 21:16

I love getting a magazine and sitting down with a cup of tea to leaf through it whilst ignoring the children

I'm planning to try a couple of dishes too flying and also hoping DH won't mind the magazines as much as another couple of cookbooks.

cats they do Olive and I was tempted - the description of it being about diningout and foodie travel as well as recipes put me off slightly...maybe I can get that next year.

I get Good Food with my Tesco vouchers and have done for about 3 years running now. I love it plopping through the door once and month and I always find at least a couple of things I want to try in each issue. The Christmas ones are especially good. There's always stuff for Easter, Valentines etc too.

I can't see me stopping it any time soon.

My problem, is bringing myself to throw the old ones away!

NettoSuperstar · 30/01/2012 21:43

I used to buy Good Food, a few years back, I got every edition for a couple of years.
I found it quite repetitive, and not that inspiring, and most of the recipes are online.

Flyingoutofcontrol · 31/01/2012 06:08

I'm only planning to get it for a year or so to build up some basic dishes - then I'll browse and buy if I want it.

I quite like the features on "how to".

MumofAurelia · 31/01/2012 06:24

Great British food magazine is also good, seasonal recipes, nice features and there are always a couple of lovely competitions, things like 'win a years supply of apples' or 'come stay in a county house hotel and learn how to make cake' ..!

FessaEst · 31/01/2012 08:25

I love GF and askrd for a sub for my birthday. I have done loads of new family dinners from it, and the Christmas copies gave me loads of ideas for presents & cake decorating etc. While a lot of the record are online, I wouldn't necessarily search for them, seeimg them in the magazine encourages me to try new things.

Chinateacup · 31/01/2012 16:08

I'm with Netto on this one I'm afraid.

nickelhasababy · 31/01/2012 16:16

it does get repetitive, but if you're only doing a one-year sub it's fine.
I've been subscribing for years (and i used to work for the subscriptions company Grin )

threeisthemagicnumber · 31/01/2012 16:21

Thanks all. I'm with you flying, only planning to do it for a year (maybe Olive next year?) and I'll keep the recipes I've made and liked.
