Can anyone recommend a freezer meal I can make for a friend with a new baby without poisining her?

Friend has just has DC3, has all the baby stuff she needs so I thought she might appreciate, I don't know, a lasagne arriving at her door that she can pop in the freezer and use as an easy tea one night!

Problem is I am an ok cook but CLUELESS re freezing/defrosting/reheating etc- don't think they'd appreciate the gift of food poisining!

Can anyone advise? Eg with a lasagne do I just take it to the point where I'd normally pop it in the oven but pop it in her freezer instead?

Thanks!

I'd avoid anything with pasta in it tbh. I find it soaks up all the liquid in a dish and you end up with soggy pasta and dry sauce! How about a nice, simple Shepherd's Pie? Reheated mashed potato definitely won't kill anyone.

I am sure your friend will be very chuffed with anything you offer! Just cook your lasagne or whatever to the point where it goes in the oven, let it cool down completely, (* that's the crucial bit) then wrap it securely (foil or plastic bag work for me) then it is ready for the freezer. You could do lots of soup and freeze them in yogurt pots as well - ideal for quick lunch and if it's thick enough, you can breast-feed and eat at the same time! Or you could do a big batch of mince cooked up with tomatoes ready to become bolognaise or shepherds pie... the list is endless. Oh yes, I would have been hugely grateful for cake too - brownies don't mind being frozen, nor do muffins - I am having flashbacks to how starving hungry I was in the early stages!

Ooh cakes, how had I not thought of that?! Brilliant, thank you.
She has 2 young DC so they would probably eat a shepherds pie too. Chilli? I can freeze chilli cant I?
Thank you! Shops here I come!

Chilli or shepherd pie filling would have gone down very well here. Or soup (something without milk would freeze best - leek and potato?). Scones also freeze very well.
