Help, my 9mnth ds wont eat any veggies at all. Is still eating pureed fruit, yoghurt and rice cereal but thats it. Sick of cooking food that is not being eaten. Want to encourage him to chew but he isnt really interested in finger food unless it is crusts which he sucks!!! At my wits end. Any suggestions?

DS was never interested in pureed veg. He only really started eating savoury stuff once I introduced a lot more texture and more interesting flavours (let's face it, I wouldn't eat pureed veggies). But I imagine you've tried that already.

What about rice pudding? It's kind-of similar to yoghurt but might be a way of getting him used to more textured food.

How many teeth does he have?

EuroExpat · 19/01/2006 11:21

Yeah, been there done that. Suddenly one day baby will eat savoury things and never look back.

Try cut up bits of the really thin spaghetti and maybe add a bit butter or plain natural yoghurt. I think this did the trick for me.

I have been having the same problem with my DS. He is limited on what he likes and point blank refuses even mashed food, let alone any lumps.

I have come to the conclusion (after much worrying, stress, and his vomiting his dinner right back) that he will do it in his own good time so i will leave the lumps a couple of weeks and try again then. He obviously isnt ready and hasnt read any of the books!

Similar problem. My 8 month old will quite happily eat lumps but seems to live on banana, yogurt and dried prunes/apricots

thirdtimeround · 19/01/2006 21:30

Thanks for the suggestions. LeahE he has nearly 8 teeth. Havent tried the rice pudding will give that a go. How old is your DS, VeniVidiVickiQv?
Yesterday has point blank refused any food at all. Spent all day and night BF. Wanting to wean and put on a bottle. Worried that if he isnt getting the right nutrients once on bottle that he will suffer.Think maybe the teething has something to do with the refusal.

If he likes yogurt try adding a small amount of pureed veg to that- my dd3 went through a phase of only eating veg like that- I increased the proportion of veg to yog gradually.

My DS is 9 months old. He refused dinner this evening but ate a yoghurt.

He didnt b/feed much either so im wondering whether his teeth are the trouble today.

thirdtimeround · 19/01/2006 23:33

Have tried mixing the pureed veggies with some apples. Actually ate about six tablespoons of sweet potatoe and apples three days ago and then every day it has decreased now to not eating anything. This morning wouldnt even eat vanilla yoghurt. I am in Australia there will be some time difference with my answering.

Anyone find that their ds/dd will eat off the shelf baby food rather than home prepared.? I have found that there are certain things I can get him to eat out of a jar that I have prepared at home and the mouth clams shut. Anyone find their little angels prefer everything cold rather than warm?

OP posts:
VeniVidiVickiQV · 20/01/2006 21:26

My DS prefers some jar foods. Only specific flavours though. So so fussy.

he likes his food just above room temperature too! But, will eat a yoghurt, which is cold so not so bad i guess.

thirdtimeround · 20/01/2006 23:27

It is so frustrating!!! My other two children opened their mouths and in it went. Never had a problem with either of them. Sleeping and teething were a dream. My third ds is a completely different child. Just when I thought I knew every trick in the book, I get sent this adorable, clever baby that throws everything I know out the window.

Yep, same here - DD was 'easy' slept 7 till 7 from 11 weeks, no real issues with teething, feeding, weaning, sleeping, potty training.

DS however, has given me a battle with everything so far. Oh well, all part of the fun i guess!

Gloworm · 21/01/2006 22:03

my son is almost 4 and still waits until his food is almost cold before he eats it.

have you tried pureed carrots, quite sweet?

or veg mixed with potato?

you mentioned he like jars, why not let him have savoury jars until he gets used to veg etc (as long as they have no sugar/salt etc?)

thirdtimeround · 22/01/2006 04:56

It sounds like VeniVidiVickiQV and I could write a book on the babies who do the opposite of everything they are suppose to!!! Still battling with the food. Very hot here though no one feels like eating.

Tried to give my ds some of our dinner as fingerfood lastnight. If it didnt get squished up in his fingers it found its way to the floor not his mouth. Have tried carrots pureed, rice pudding and various other combinations in the last week to no avail. Think I will just keep giving him what he likes and wait a couple of months. I am weaning him at the moment. See how he goes when he cant fill up on bf.
