(I put this message in chat originally but didn't have any replies so I've started it again here)

Hi all,

I got a teasmade recently and the water tastes funny after it's boiled, does anyone else's?

I let the water run through a few times when I first got it, and have probably used it to make tea or coffee maybe 8 times now and still there is a funny taste to it, like if you reboil water too many times, kwim?

Any suggestions would be great
x

I havent got a teasmade but when I read this I thought "ooh that might be useful" and had a look on amazon.

There were reviewers on there and Argos saying they had this and used an appliance de-scaler to get rid of it.

So there you go.

Ahh great thanks for that, I'll get on next time I go to the shops. Apart from the dodgy taste I love my teasmade! It's got a clock, alarm, lamp. Fab

I have one. It doesn't taste strafe but the clock annoys me because it's too bright. I have had to stick tape over it.

Strange

I'd quite like one but I like milk in my tea and how do you keep that fresh overnight? If I have to get up and go down to get milk from the fridge, I might as well boil a kettle!

Now mummydolt I had a genius idea (well I think so anyway!), at some point during the day I put the milk in a mug and freeze it. At bedtime I take the frozen milk upstairs so by morning it's defrosted and still cool. Great yeah!?!

....or you can keep milk in a very cold vacuum flask over night.

MummyDoIt · 20/01/2012 21:12

Freezing the milk is a clever idea but I fear requires an amount of forward planning that is beyond me! The flask would work but it seems like overkill to have a whole flask just for the small dash of milk I take in my tea. You'd think someone would invent a teasmade with a little fridge section for the milk.

My mum and dad used to have one when I was a child. she liked it at the time but she said it was a bit of a faff.

Aw I want one.
I can't start the day without a cuppa.

How about using an ice cube tray/bag for milk?? Freeze a pint or so, 1 or 2 cubes in your cup as you go to bed?

I love my teasmade! DH bought it a few years ago when he was sick of having to get up to make me a cup of tea every morning (I refuse to get out of bed till I've had a cup of tea..)
We got one of the new Swan one's last year and had to send it back because there was no way to switch the alarm off permanently. I bought a replacement of the really old model on Ebay at vast expense
Why did they think i'd want to get up, switch the alarm off when it boiled, go back to bed for 5 minutes while it brewed and then get up and pour it out????
Milk - we must keep a very cold house as even in summer it's fine overnight - a little tupperware pot thing we just take up at bedtime.
Lakeland sell mini vacuum flasks to go with your teasmade if you want to go really posh Grin
