I've been looking at halogen ovens, and the idea of a roast chicken cooked in 45 minutes is very appealing, but are the really any good?

I wouldn't! What else would you use it for?

Fluffycloudland77 · 18/01/2012 20:24

Well I bought a slow cooker instead!

A halogen hob. Yes I have had one.

A halogen oven. I've never heard of anyone having one.

My mum has a halogen oven btw, I'm not a slow cooker fan either! Grin

I have a halogen oven (I presume you mean the small glass type).

I sometimes use it for cooking a couple of bits of chicken or pizza for the DCs .

But what I love it for is cooking Yorkshire Puddings.
If I'm doing the Sunday Dinner, it's brilliant because I can see what they're up to, and I don't have to open it until they're done. (I'm talking about the Aunt Bessie bake your own or owns I make myself, not the 4 minute ones)

Oh I see, now I've bought the slow cooker you cant wait to tease me with tales of yorkshire puds.

Well it's too late now. The money is spent. Grin

Ooh! I'd not thought of yorkshires!

Goes off to re-think stance on halogen ovens....

No you don't need one. My mum has one and she says there is a reason why there are so many on ebay for sale!

Slow cookers are brilliant - just don't add ANY water ( I know that sounds mad but that's why people end up disappointed with them!)

Oh, I must be an oddity then because I love my halogen oven and use it almost daily.

Since I bought mine around 8ish months ago I've never cooked anything in my cooker oven since.

Roast fatties are the best as they come up so crispy, ditto with chicken skin, duck skin etc.

Food is cooked in far less time. Also can't say I've noticed an increase on my electricity bill as a result of using the oven daily, and I believe it's proven very cost effective and economical.

Now my slow cooker on the other hand is something I can't get to grips with.

Oh God!

Tatties! Potatoes! Definitely not fatties. Blush
