I don't usually put egg in mine but you could make the mixture stiffer by adding breadcrumbs maybe or flour, anything that absorbs the liquid.

Not a fail safe recipe but mine is something like this:

1 tin of kidney beans mashed
1 or 2 shredded carrot
Cumin, coriander, chillli powder (optional)
Finely sliced spring onion or coriander (optional)
A quantity of breadcrumbs made from 1 slice of bread
Grated cheese
Seasoning
Tomatoe ketchup or puree to bind the mixture

I just mix it all in a bowl until it forms a dryish but dough like mixture in order to shape flattened balls from them. Then cover in more fine breadcrumbs. Chill for at least 1 hour.

You can fry them or put them on an oiled baking tray at gas 6 for 15 - 20 minutes turning them over half way.

I use egg in mine but, depending on how wet/dry the rest of the ingredients are, sometimes you only need 1/2 and egg rather than a full one.

Mine goes like....
6oz cooked kidney beans or chickpeas, crushed or whizzed in a food processor
2 tablespoons rolled oats
1 grated carrot
Herbs, spices, chilli flakes, seeds and other flavourings to taste
Beaten egg... 1 or slightly less... to bind everything together.

I set aside the mixture for about an hour to allow the oats and beans to absorb the egg. Then shape with wet hands into patties before shallow frying in a little oil. If the patties are still a bit loose, shape them in the pan and the cooking process will firm them up

To your 'gloopy glue' I would add a lot more mashed beans and some rolled oats until it hangs together and can be manipulated
