Ok, aside from spag bol, cottage pie, meatballs, moussaka and burgers what do you make with your mince?

inspire me!
meal planning for this week and need to eat it on monday as no room in freezer.

P.s Only me and Ds eat Chilli so I rarely do it as have to cook separate for DD and DH

Plate pie is lovely - just cook a chopped onion in a little oil for a while, add the mince, cook with plenty of pepper and a beef stock cube or two for ages. Add a splash of water if it sticks. Sprinkle with flour and stir. Put pastry as a base on a big plate, put mince in a spread out, top with more pastry and cook for about 30 mins at 180 c. Yum with mash, peas and gravy. But also fab cold in packed lunches.

Buy lamb mince and make Nigellas quick lamb ragu. Basically lamb mince, green lentils, pancetta, tinned toms and water. Delicious, and makes a change from beef mince.

MrsKitty · 15/01/2012 06:50

Was also going to say meatloaf. Jamie Oliver does a fab one in Ministry of Food

Enchiladas. No need for them to be spicy - I usually do half spicy and half not (for the DC).

I've done something likethis before. (I think garbanzo beans are chick peas).

Thanks guys, think I am going for meatloaf as I have the ingredients and the point of meal planning is that I don't go shopping now till friday and need to use what I've got!

Other recipes sound nice for future reference though, I tend to use lamb mince for Moussaka so good to have alternative. I do a Morrocan beef, but usually use casserole beef so nice idea as a change :)

Biryani is nice, and you can get on with stuff while it's baking.
Samosas are a good way to use up mince and random veg, although I can't be bothered with the pastry so usually stuff the meat into pitta breads (it's much the same)
Tortillas- yummyGrin
Mince & onion pie (pretty much any food tastes good in pie IMO

inmysparetime · 15/01/2012 08:03

Ooh, and Cornish pastiesSmile

Toast some almonds, mix with browned mince, use to stuff aubergines, cover with a mix of tomato juice and pomegranate molasses ( just a few spoonfuls of the pm), then simmer until tender.

My mincy favourites are Moroccan kefte curry (basically spicy meatballs in spicy tomato sauce) and keema with loads of peas. Yum.

wordfactory · 17/01/2012 11:50

Keema with lamb mince.
Very salving.

Any good ideas for pork mince? Got a load in the freezer That needs using.

jicky · 17/01/2012 12:11

Pork mince for Japanese 3 colour rice - its an old good food recipes but not on the website.

Small knob butter
3 eggs
Small knob ginger
1 tbsp honey
300g frozen peas
500g pork mince
4 tbsp soy sauce
2 tsp sugar
500g sushi rice

Cook rice according to packet
Fry pork over high heat until well browned (5 mins)
Add grated ginger, soy sauce and sugar and cook until liquid evapourated and pork crisp. Put in bowl and keep warm. Cook peas.

Whisk honey into eggs. Wipe pan with kitchen paper, add butter and heat until foaming. Swirl eggs into pan and cook until set. Tip from pan and chop.

Mix rice, pork, peas and egg and serve.

My kids and all visiting kids love this.

Gigondas · 17/01/2012 13:52
