Problem is he refuses to eat any fruit or veg and I mean ANY.

Anyone suggestions rather than a ham sandwich gratefully accepted!

What can I give him to fill up that's not crap?

dried fruit - raisins, good yogurts like yeo valley...

ssd · 16/01/2006 17:43

Hi
I have always been lucky with my daughter, she eats mostly anything.

I give her Tuna, sweetcorn and mayo and sometimes add sweet red pepper to it.

Carrots sticks with a little pot of tomato sauce
?

Banana, fresh strawberries?

fruit sticks which are made from natural fruit no additives?

Baby snacks?

You could try flavoured rice crackers? snack-a-jacks

fruit jelly made with jelly crystals

Hope that helps!

MarsOnLife · 16/01/2006 18:07

tuna mayonnaise
egg mayonnaise
cucumber sandwiches

I use tortilla wraps and mini pitta bread.

Can you get those lovely fruit bars that look like sweet bars? Can't remember what they are called sorry.

soup in a flask. You could lose a lot of veg in a soup.

What about fruit smoothies? Will he drink those?

grammaticus · 16/01/2006 18:56

yoghurt, frozen cooked sausages (they'll defrost by lunchtime), rice cakes, pancakes with raisins in, cheese sticks, pitta bread and mini philadelphia tubs.

tbh i'd put fruit in, he may well eat it when all the others do.

robinpud · 16/01/2006 19:03

Just a quick question about tortilla wraps and pittas- that can be a little dry and if we are home I put them in the microwave for 10 secs. Any tips on how to keep the moist for lunch time- esp the wraps?

pasta and cucumber cold meat
chicken leg
pastry things?

poppiesinaline · 16/01/2006 19:04

flapjacks. Banana muffin. (I have recipes for those if you are interested. Very easy)

poppiesinaline · 16/01/2006 19:04

Cold pizza.

MarsOnLife · 16/01/2006 19:10

I wrap them in clingfilm or foil. If you make sure that there are no air holes they should be alright robin. hth

robinpud · 16/01/2006 19:28

do you microwave them first then - wraps say then need 10secs don't they otherwise they don't wrap?
I am the mistress of clingfilm - wretched stuff- I end up wrapping each item near enough!

sunchowder · 16/01/2006 19:30

Carrot or Courgette muffins. Banana Bread, custards, rice pudding, tapioca puddings?

MarsOnLife · 16/01/2006 19:31

I only ever microwave them if I've frozen them. But otherwise... I suppose so!

Ds would never touch cucumber, tomato, raw carrot or red pepper normally, but loves a 'do it yourself' lunch. I cut up a selection of salad/veg and breadsticks and he either chooses what he wants to stuff in a pita pocket or chooses what he wants to dip in a little pot of houmous or cream cheese. He is quite happy to try most things like this.

Mini scotcheggs/cocktail sausages, ham and pasta? Not the healthiest, but might get him in the mood for trying something new.

Little boxes of dried fruit - sorry if other people have suggested these, havent had time to read whole thread.

Hiding dried fruit, apricots etc. in cakes, muffins or flapjack.

Organix do Strawverry dippers - aimed at toddlers but ds loves them in his lunchbox. Basically pureed strawberry with biscuits to dip in. All healthy and biscuits sweetened with apple juice so no sugar.
My Mum had some really nice 'crisps' the other day that were all different veg. Will ask her what they were.

thanks for all these.

please can I have the recipe for the cheese muffins and the banana ones?

soup is also a good idea, he likes my lentil soup blended up as he thinks I've taken the veg out........

he's not keen on cheese either, doesn't like dairylee or philly.

seems he's had a ham sandwich for 3 years!!!

any other suggestions on how to disguise veg in meals for him? I've got a blender and a smoothie maker. he loves innocent smoothie drinks but they are so expensive, and when I make them up he says he doesn't like mine as mich, fussy bugger!

Banana muffins

8 oz self raising flour
2 oz butter
2 oz light brown soft sugar
1 tablespoon of clear honey
1 medium sized banana (ripe and mashed)
2 medium sized eggs, beaten
4 fl oz milk

Gas mark 6/ 200 degrees

Place flour in large bowl
Rub in butter
Stir in brown sugar
Beat in honey, banana, eggs and milk to form a thick batter consistency. Spoon into muffin cases. (Have to do this quick and shove in oven cos it goes everywhere!) or use a muffin tin.

Bake in oven for 15 - 20 mins.

YUM YUM

ssd have just asked my Mum what the veggie crisps were and she couldnt remember!! She got them in the crisp section in Waitrose and she said there were several different ones in the range, additive free she thinks, so next time I'm in there I will go and look.

ssd · 18/01/2006 16:01

thanks Art, I'm in scotland and we don't have Waitrose, so hopefully they aren't their own brand!

What about putting your own smoothies in an 'innocent smoothie' bottle and trying to pass it off as a prepackaged one...It's amazing how effective marketing can be
