Can you recommend good kitchen utensils/gadgets for new kitchen in 2012

I have just had to clear out my old kitchen after 20 years as it is going to be replaced in the next two weeks. I have taken to charity shops lots of pots and pans that I don't need BUT have also thrown out my vegetable peeler, cheese grater, garlic press, sieve, lemon squeezer, chopping boards as they were worn out. I want to replace these things with a really good make - well made, professional, and most importantly they must work well. Have had trendy versions of these things before but they never last so I am looking to buy things that look good but more importantly work well without breaking. Are there any makes that you recommend that are good quality, classic design?

Thank you MrsM - these are great ideas. Had not heard of Nisbets - will look at their site.
When you say a beech lemon squeezer you mean made of beech wood(sorry to be thick)

I recently replaced a lot of utensils with the Brabantia 'Prestige' range. Really pleased with them. BTW... as well as a potato masher, treat yourself to a potato ricer. Much smoother results.

'Profile' rather than Prestige...

Thanks - will go and look at those...

I love the microplane graters - not cheap but absolutely worth the money. Great for lemon zest, garlic etc.

Marking my place...

I've been meaning to buy a potato ricer for a while...I must check out some of these other gadgets too...

I hate my ricer. I think it's because we eat mountains of mash but it takes forever to mash potatoes...

Anyone impressed with a particular lemon squeezer?

My favourite gadgets:
Kenwood Chef
Pestle and Mortar
Coffee machine + Grinder
Fat separating jug
Potato ricer
Toast stamps.
Mini chopper.
Slow cookers.

I have a rotary grater, but love the look of the bucket one.

I want a griddle pan next, plus a decent wok, oh and an oven that cooks evenly.
