Simple puddings your kids like?

Thought I'd start doing a pudding a couple of times a week for the kids rather than have them pester for sweets and wanting supper (had thought they could have tea before bath, bath, then pudding an hour or so before bed)

What do your kids like for pud?

Mine will eat pretty much anything so was going to start this week with fruit & yogurt and a cake with pink custard. And then fruit the remaining evenings.

rice pudding
plain custard with sprinkles on top
tinned pineapple

My routine is similar, so find these sort of puddings are just light enough, so they don't feel too full to sleep.

banana and custard

Pancakes

rice pudding
apple crumble

Robert loves the muller corner deserts - he often asks for them in preference to other sweet things!

Other than that he also likes
Fruit fool
Steamed pudding (can be bought from shop or mixed quick at home and microwaved - only takes about 10 mins all told from scratch)
Fruit salad
Frozen yoghurt or ice cream

And for a treat

Chocolate or caramel profiteroles!! (my own personal favourite!)

My 2yo isn't sleeping well lately & I wondered if she's missing the baby milk at bed time (only recently swapped for milky hot choc) and not quite as full as she would be from having the milk (does that make sense). A pudding an hour or so before bed & then a hot chocolate for both seems worth trying to see if she sleeps any better. Especially as dp is starting a new job tomorrow & I don't want to be faffing with her at night when I'm not going to see him until 10pm at the earliest most evenings

These are brill, I'm off to get my book out to make a note of them for myself. Thanks very much!

Lucy not sure if the hot choc before bed is a good idea. Wouldn't the sugar before bedtime mean that she was more hungry in the night? Have you seen this book? We used her one for babies and it was great.

custard with any one of the following - raisins, broken bits of ginger biscuit, sponge pudding, slice of McVities ginger /syrup cake (getting the idea Xmas Grin).

milk jelly - make a sugar free jelly with only 1/3 pint of water, when cold but not set add 2/3 pint of milk and stir, allow to set in fridge.

fruit

lucysmam · 01/01/2012 18:14

I didn't know that about the sugar Jilted! Will check out the link when the girls are tucked up, thanks

Never heard of milk jelly, that may be bumped up the list to try tomorrow evening

a creme caramel and banana

Auntiestablishment · 02/01/2012 16:42

Baked custard a la Mrs Beeton. Optional additions: vanilla essence in custard, nutmeg grated on custard. All are great. I loved this as a child and still make it now. Nicest when cooled to body temperature.

Banana split

Hot cake with custard I make batches of muffins, freeze, then microwave.
