How many eggs a day is too many?

I eat a lot of eggs - 1 or 2 for breakfast but then I might also have a 2-3 egg omelette for dinner so usually 2 but potentially 5 on a bad day. My general health including cholesterol were all fine at my last health check about a year ago but not since my new found love of eggs for breakfast developed Grin. My mum reckons 2 or 3 a week is enough but I feel so much better having swopped toast/cereal for eggs in the morning that I can't imagine going back to it.
Anyone know the official guidelines and what is actually a sensible limit?

Dukan diet recommends 2 whole eggs but unlimited egg whites.

Well, I think they used to say about 5-7 a week, but they have done studies not long ago that have shown that dietary cholesterol doesn't raise the blood cholesterol-it's the saturated fats that do that. So for that reason I think it's fine to have as many as you want. Plenty of good stuff in an egg and definitely much more healthy than Frosties.

It changes all the time, doesn't it Grin Last I read, cholesterol in food doesn't affect your blood cholesterol levels all that much, it is saturated fat that does that and the food standards agency doesn't recommend limiting the number of eggs you eat any more, unless your gp has advised you to cut down.

Although it was a full five minutes ago that I checked this, so it may well have changed again. Grin

Thanks much as I suspected but will be interested to see if my cholesterol has changed as I'm due another medical in the NY.

There's no limit on the number of eggs that is deemed healthy. However, a varied diet is essential. Isolated indicators like cholesterol level can be misleading. If you're eating too many eggs and not enough of the other foods available then you risk not getting a full range of nutrition - which can obviously be detrimental to health in the long-run.
