NYE party food - very simple nibbles (not whole dishes)

We've got up to 20 people coming round tomorrow. No prep so far and v little time tomorrow, they're not expecting much in the way of food but want to give them a few v simple nibbles. So far I'm planning to do crisps, nice sausages cut into slices (that people can skewer with cocktail sticks), a cheese platter, some vegetarian pizzas cut into small slices, carrots/peppers/cucumber with hummus. Doesn't seem very much for a whole night - any other suggestions that require min preparation?

(I know there's another NYE food thread on here but it seems to be mostly main courses).

Thanks v much

I second Plainwhitet's post above - lovely with pesto or some sort of paste of sundried tomatoes. Don't forget they will puff up a lot, so leave some space on the tray. They look really impressive but are so easy (and smell good too, so do just before guests arrive!).

If you're doing pizza, what about some baskets of garlic bread? It's nice to have a couple of hot things and that's very easy.

And if you like the sound of the mini baked potatoes but don't want to slice them all and add cheese, you could just roast them in olive oil, with sea salt and rosemary. You could serve them with a bowl of tapenade and some of those pyramids of mild soft goats cheese for dipping.

A couple of baked camembert cheeses? Stud them with garlic, leave them in the box, bake for 10 mins

Best tip I ever got was a few things and lots of them, rather than lots of different food.
Nigella's cocktail sausages are to die for.

I second Nigella's cocktail sausages - either with honey, soy and mustard, or cranberry sauce instead of honey - they are lovely.

I really like those tiny bite sized garlic and herb Boursin pieces you can buy in a tub now, stuck on a cocktail stick with a cherry tomato and a basil leaf. Coud not be easier, but really delicious.

Also in Nigella Express/Christmas (one or the other) she has a recipe for a very simple crab and coriander dip for blobbing onto lightly salted tortilla chips and that is to die for.

Can I ask Plainwhitet - do you mean you roll each long side up into the middle so you get two rolls? Do you cut it down the middle lengthways. Am I being thick?!!

I've spent the afternoon getting some bits together for tonight. We are going to have:
Chicken tikka pieces with veg on a stick roasted
Honey and musturd cocktail sausages
Mozzarella, tomato and rocket on cocktail sticks
Smoked salmon stuffed with cream cheese and rocket
Carrot and cucumber with tsatsiki and humour
Crisps
Meat and bread
Melba toast with pate

Not sure what else to do. It doesn't seem enough. There will be ten of us (I think).

If you don't mind doing a bit of prep work I will recommend delicious spinach balls. This is an American recipe so it is in cups but I promise it's worth the faff converting things. You can read about how to convert it here courtesy of Delia

They are a little bit of heaven on a plate and that comes from someone who doesn't normally like spinach. That recipe does make a large quantity so you could halve it easily.

worzelswife · 31/12/2011 16:20

Oh and I just used normal breadcrumbs for the herb bread stuffing mix, and regular salt and some garlic as I had run out of garlic salt.

Here nospringflower this is what they meant :)
