Question re cooking with slow cooker

I got a slow cooker for Xmas and am very pleased! I have guests for lunch next week and want to use it to cook a leg of lamb, but this would mean turning it on at 4am to allow the 10 hours cooking the recipe requires. Can I cook it and then reheat? Or do I need to make the decision whether to set my alarm or use a different recipe? I was keen to do a leg if lamb as they are half price in sainsburys at the mo!

I tend to cook food the day before. Put it in the fridge, then reheat a couple of hours before guests come. It's not recommended to reheat stuff in the slow cooker, but no one has died yet.

you're eating at 2:30 or 3pm? That's a pretty late lunch!

Get a plug in lamp timer from Homebase or similar, and set THAT to turn on at 2am, then off at noon (assuming your bedtime is around midnight- having the food sitting around raw for more than a few hours isn't sanitary; likewise it shouldn't sit out and cooked more than about 2 hours; wrap it to rest like you'd do any other roast).

Or just cook it on high for 5 hours (the recipe probably offers an alternative time for high, but it's usually 1/2 the time on the low setting)

Yes cook it the day before but DON'T re heat in the slow cooker - it heats things too slowly which goes against all basic food hygiene. You need to bring it up to heat quickly as possible and thoroughly with no cold spots.
