Can anyone advise? Made a mincemeat pastry tart and the recipie says to dredge the top with sugar both before and after baking. What does dredge mean? Thank you!

Sprinkle. With a sieve or something.

it's a fancy name for sprinkling Xmas Wink

you know when you put some icing sugar in a sieve and shake it over the top?

that's dredging - mmmmmmm i want a mince pie now for breakfast

I'd not put too much on before, it may burn and spoil the look of the pastry.

In fact I'd wouldn't...just glaze the top, and get the sugar on as soon as it comes out of the oven, the heat will let it stick. If you wait till the pie is cooled it will all just fall off!
