Starter delias hot and sour prawns:

Main course lemon tuna with roasted tomato sauce from cookuk website, sorry can't do links. Starter with bread, main with potatoes Anne manger tout. Is this ok?

It's a lot of fish!
Don't people normally eat cold meats & cheese on boxing day?
For me it sounds a bit rich after the gluttony of Xmas day, I'd rather soup and crusty rolls & then turkey & salad

MyLifeIsStillChaotic · 21/12/2011 08:32

I can't get my head round lemon tuna with a tomato sauce. I can't imagine it 'working'. Have you tried it before? It doesn't sound all that appealing if I honest Blush

But the prawns sound lovely

StealthPolarBear · 21/12/2011 08:43

Ok so the lemon tuna is out and I need a non fishy main course?

Actually I think I'd prefer to change the starter - does anyone have good oven baked tuna recipes?

I'm actually of the (humble) opinion that prawns and tuna isn't too much fish for a meal, I just wasn't sure about the tuna dish. Sorry I can't help with an alternative though.

StealthPolarBear · 21/12/2011 09:07

Hmm. I need more oinions! Should I just leave out the lemon?

OP posts:
dreamingbohemian · 21/12/2011 09:18

It's a lot of different flavours in one meal!

I also think you should skip the tomato sauce and keep the lemon. I don't see tomato sauce going that well with tuna?

Do you need a starter at all? Could you do maybe a small cup of light soup?

moondog · 21/12/2011 17:41

Lemon tuna with tomato does sound weird.

I'd do more of a trad. Boxing Day spread meself.

StealthPolarBear · 21/12/2011 18:10

Every recipe I find seems to have tuna with tomatoes, agree that lemon seems more logical! Aaargh

OP posts:
dreamingbohemian · 21/12/2011 19:33

Well that's just weird Smile

Just serve with a bit of lemon, maybe some parsley, will be much less work for you too

piebald · 21/12/2011 21:32

Prawns are lovely and whats too much fish when you are a polar bear. I think it sounds good for boxing day nice and fresh and zingy. i often put lemon and tomato together its yum

breatheslowly · 22/12/2011 12:06

Is it fresh tuna? If so then I would just sear it (make sure it is still pink inside) and serve with lemon or an asian style soy dipping/drizzling sauce like this allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/2212/sesame-encrusted-tuna-with-sweet-soy-dipping-sauce.aspx. Overcooking tuna is like overcooking steak, only worse, so the key is to make sure it is just seared.

StealthPolarBear · 22/12/2011 12:10

Well at this rate it will be tinned, one tin per person :o
I went to Waitrose last night to see if they had any - they had 3 bits. I need 8. So am trying M&S and sainsbury's today, but not hopeful.

I don't rate your luck on that one. Tesco are doing half price whole salmons. You can get them to hack them apart fillet them for you and DH did lovely poached salmon fillets recently using the recipe from Good Housekeeping using court bouillon. A whole salmon cost us £12 and resulted in 12 massive fillets. That would go really well with new potatoes and mange tout and you would have some left over for the freezer.

StealthPolarBear · 22/12/2011 12:20

DH doesn't like salmon so I would end up having to do soemhing different for hm, as well as me (don't eat fish).
So you think I'll struggle? How can there not be 8 pieces of tuna in an entire county :(

OP posts:
breatheslowly · 22/12/2011 12:21

Why are you doing fish if you don't eat it? Wouldn't it be easier to do something you do like?

dreamingbohemian · 22/12/2011 12:22

Wait, if you don't like fish why so set on tuna?

GwendolineMaryLacedwithBrandy · 22/12/2011 12:24

I think a nice clean piece of fish would be lovely on Boxing Day after all the meat and stodge.

ivykaty44 · 22/12/2011 12:28

Yes agree with poster who asks - why cook fish when you don't eat fish? plus your dh doesn't eat salmon.

Do you eat other meat?

A simple sheapards pie made up on christmas eve and kept in the fridge and cooked on boxing day - or a piece of ham cooked on C/eve and do 8 jkt potatoes and serve with pickles - less is often more

StealthPolarBear · 22/12/2011 12:42

Sorry, I don't eat meat or fish. DH (eats meat) really only likes meaty fish and shellfish - doesn't like salmon or cod. Mum eats fish. Everyone else eats everything :o Was hoping to do a nice meal, rather than cold meat, JPs and salad - I always do that sort of thing. Tuna would mean I would have quorn with the same sauce / marinade (mum diesn't like quorn) and EVERYONE else has the same.

Sounds lovely to me, though I'm no expert. My boxing day menu looks like this:

Starter: Pringles with assorted leftover dips

Main: Turkey and stuffing sandwiches with pigs in blankets

Dessert: Mince pies and/or crackers with leftover cheese

breatheslowly · 22/12/2011 12:48

What about a cheese and leek tart? There is a lovely one in one of the River Cottage books that DH makes.

breatheslowly · 22/12/2011 12:51

Sorry - this thread isn't coming out very constructively. I would definitely go for something asian style with the tuna and good luck with finding enough of it.

dreamingbohemian · 22/12/2011 13:09

Hmm I think you should go for a prawns main course then, they will take a sauce better than tuna so you will have something for your quorn.
