christmas brunch inspiration

firesoup · 18/12/2011 20:54

We are having dh parents over for brunch on xmas morning so they can see lo open presents etc but am looking for inspiration for what to serve. None of us will be eating chrustmas dinner till 5ish so needs to be reasonably filling. Am thinking bagels and smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, sausage rolls, big plate of nice fruit and croissants and prob some cake/mince pies. Can anyone think of anything else or different ideas, ideally things i could prepare in advance as would rather be with ds than cooking in the morning! There will be 5 adults and one 2 year old.

Thanks

Bacon butties?

I think what you have suggested above re smoked salmon and bagels, plus the option of fresh fruit or croissants too sounds perfect. Personally I don't think sausage rolls or mince pies are brunchy but I guess you could serve the latter with coffee a bit later?

How about a baked french toast - you can prepare it the night before. The recipes all suggest French bread but best with brioche. Here's one link from All Recipes .

We are doing (at about noon)

  • smoked salmon salad
  • blinis
  • risotto balls
  • fruit salad
  • crusty bread
  • mackerel pate and crudites

with mince pies, stollen and pannetone for afterwards

We're going for smoked salmon, cold meat and cheese board, with a load of bread and biscuits for cheese. Cake for pud.

Crepes? You can make the pancakes the night before then just throw in the toppings on the day, takes just a few minutes to cook up.
