Sourdough crisis. Help!

Made a sourdough starter three days ago - Nigella's recipe which is a batter with a pinch of yeast in it.

Nothing is happening...no bubbles, nothing. Just separating out a bit.

Should I take out the fridge, feed it crushed grapes, chuck away and start again, or just be patient???

From the limited experience I have had with sourdough, add your daily extras of water and flour, and stir it.

I have an aged and very active sourdough starter so know nothing of Nigella and her pinch of yeast.

Sounds like cheating to me hmm.Wink

I agree with 4merly, take it out of the fridge, give it a tablespoon or so of flour and some water, stir well and leave it a few days. Put it on the kitchen work top. They like a bit of warmth to get going imo.

I always treat my starter the way I treat my house plants, when it looks as though it needs a feed it probably does.

Works for me.

Lots of luck.

you have now reminded me about mine, lurking the fridge for the last few years, am now going to try and ressurect it. Smile

i would keep it going but start another one and then see which seems to work first, just put equal amounts of flour and water into a bowl, stir and leave in warm place, add more flour and water every day until you see it bubbling, it is ready to use when it can double in size in a few hours

only keep it in the fridge if you are not planning on using it for a few days

thanks all.

put some more flour in, took it out of the fridge (duh) and added a few grapes for good luck. It is looking much happier now
