Hotel chocolat's dark choc with no fillings is suitable. In Leeds there is a shop called "Bon bon's" which does the best diabetic chocs my FIL has had. I don't know if they have a website.

Thorntons does diabetic chocs in an assortment box - MIL doesn't complain!!

Angelswings · 13/12/2011 20:16

Agree Thorntons

Could you make your own?

I plan to make some for FIL who is diabetic but has a very sweet tooth. Was planning to use this recipe but with sugar free chocolate (eg Sainsburys sell diabetic dark chocolate about £1 for a large bar iirc)

truffles

You are best to get high cocoa chocolate. Diabetic ranges are not recommended because they are so fattening and bad for you (I'm diabetic). Although not everyone lies dark chocolate.

See here

However as it's a gift and he won't be eating it all the time the Thorntons ones are nice enough

ScaryFairy28 · 14/12/2011 16:41

Might try making the truffles but will they not still have sugar in the chocolate?

You could buy a bar of 85% cocoa and stick some canderel in it?

Live in central Scotland. Thanks for the ideas but he's really not a dark chocolate fan.

There is a website that sells choc - can't remember its name, but it's in Macclesfield. They sell Michel Cluizel choc bars and chocs, which I think includes a milk one that is 64% cocoa solids. If you google Michel Cluizel it comes up with the name of the site.

Does he have type 1 or type 2 diabetes? If he is type1 he will be able to inject insulin to counterbalance the sugar in normal chocolate and there is no need to give "diabetic" chocolate. If he is type 2 and controls by diet/medication then as you were....!

(I have type 1 and frankly would far rather be given real chocolate and administer extra insulin than laxative odd tasting diabetic chocolate!)

Thorntons diabetic dark chocolate covered mints are LOVELY, the best sugar-free choc I've found.
